Yesterday I was in our local Home Depot and I cruised thru the Appliance department to check out any new items they may have. I was shocked to see most of the washer/dryer section was stocked up with LG machines. I mean, every color on display. Even the steam washer in that Candy Apple Red color!
The salesman was telling me that these are their most popular machines, and that they are very reliable. I mentioned a few things about LG to him such as their lack of a national repair program and how difficult it is to get them services if they break. Surprisingly, he agreed with me! He said he know of a few cases where LG has dragged their feet getting the machines serviced and usually the customer returns those machines.
Now on the other hand, they did have the Maytag Epic's there too. And one of the features they were pushing on that machine is the sturdy door and hinges. The hinges on that machine looks like it's made of cast iron! Does anyone here know of anyone who owns an Epic machine?

HD is pushing the LG because the LG brand is being positioned as a premium brand.

What shocked me was that the other brands represented were only a few models. They had many more LG's than any other brand represented.
Isn't Home Depot aware of the service problems associated with LG? Why would they choose a brand that could lead to customer dissatisfaction if the machine broke?
Sure LG machines look nice, but I would be wary of buying one.

No, it's probably more like a more profitable machine for them to sell. It would be interesting to find out the wholesale price to HD of an LG compared to a domestic machine.. Half the cost or less wouldn't be surprising.

Thanks Pete,
I figured that was probably a key factor to selling those, high markup value.

In our Best Buy, they have the same thing....an array of LGs, along with one Samsung, one Fridg, etc.

The others look a little like stepchildren next to the colorful, extravagant-looking LGs, and the "Capo di tutti capi" LG has a video extolling the washer's virtues, playing over it!

It's definitely noticeable, but you just have to pay it no mind when you shop. Remember the Calypsos in Sears?

I wonder if they are the exclusive dealer for that Wild Cherry color, hope not because I wouldn't even buy a light bulb from Home Depot. Anyone know?

Home Depot in Canada does not sell LG so it may be a sign of things to come south of the border. They seem to now exclusively push GE & Maytag (and their respective economy brands Moffat & Magic Chef). Another large major appliance retailer in Canada called Coast Wholesale has also discontinued offering the LG brand. I talked to a representative there when I was recently upgrading appliances and she indicated that it was due to their weak support network and lack of widely available repair parts.

I wonder if Home Depot will start carrying Inglis/Whirlpool now that they have absorbed Maytag?
