Hi. Am I correct in assuming that the photo attached shows the rinse dispenser dispensing aperture (lower right) and fill opening (upper left)? If so, is there any guidance on how much rinse agent should be poured into the fill opening at once and how long a fill will last (how many washes)? I'm hoping that if this is the rinse dispenser it actually works. Thanks!

On that topic, are NOS and/or replacements available? We're buying a house with a 19 series Custom (i.e. don't think there was one standard)? The home inspector in Palm Springs entirely disclaimed the d/w thinking it too old to bother with.

Lauren- yes, that is the rinse aid dispenser. Usually those hold around a cup worth of material. You might want to google the owners manual for the model you have and get ALL the care details for the dishwasher.

Jamie- Unless the dw you're acquiring has two blank rubber plugs where a dispenser like the one pictured would go AND the wire terminal on the timer for connecting a dispenser; you really can't put one in even if you found it.

I don't know if they still make those little baskets of agent that get clipped onto one of the racks and they dispense agent while the machine is running. It's worth checking.

Jamie, congratulations on your Palm Springs purchase!  It's the perfect place for a dishwasher that doesn't offer a heated drying cycle.

My recollection was that it was standard on the Superba, optional on both the Imperial and Custom. All will be revealed after closing (LOL)

Standard!

Yes on the Superba models for sure. The 18 series was the last of the type shown in the first post. Solenoid activated rinse dispenser. These were used on the 14 thru 18 series units.
The 19 thru 23 series used a single opening in the door and it was activated by a bimetal spring that would lift the plunger and dispense the rinse agent into the tub. The timer would route the pump motor current through the bimetal causing it to heat and bend, causing the plunger to lift and open the pathway for the rinse agent to travel into the tub. Opening the door would allow the liquid to re=fill a small reservoir (held closed by the plunger) which would then run out when the plunger lifted up.

The detergent dispensers used a similar setup to open the detergent cups by bending away from the latch and allowing the doors to swing open.

I still have a few of the ones to fit the single hole setup should you want one.

Re:  how much to fill the reservoir, it's usually to the top unless there is some sort of marker provided/referenced.  Do not fill further than the small opening that you are dumping the rinse agent into.  I assume you will have to use a coin or a screwdriver to unscrew the reservoir plug, only because I can't tell from the picture if the slotted section is big enough to get your fingers around it.
