You're welcome! Thank you for sharing your pictures. Nice stash of detergent, you are prepared for quite a few of Bob Loads. But what on earth is that beer doing next to the dryer. Beer is supposed to be cold. But then again your British... :P

that beer is waiting to go int the fridge when I drink the stuff thats chilled in there already! LOL

but first im depleating stocks of Shiraz and Chatueau Neuf du Pape, Red wine is more my tipple as beer tends to bloat that wonderfully flat stomach of mine.

Who would have guessed that 6 months ago I was 17 stone.
I actually just got the tape measure out and im 5'8.
Thats some achievement I reckon.

last rinse

aquarius1984's profile picture
This is as high as it gets with a small wash load on either the wool wash and Super
Rinse on Cottons and Synths.

Its not a weight sensor machine but when you have a full load in the pressure switch gets scammed when the drum turns in the rinses,(the wash load takes the water with it and thus the machine thinks its running low) so it adds more water.
Hope thats a good description for you.

With every tumble more and more water is added over the rinses 5 minutes.

Just before the last tumble into distribution the level is 1/3 up the door mebbe. When I have a full load I will get a pic.

The foam is created thanks to all that FS.

The rinse previous was clear. Luckily LOL

Rinsing Properly

aquarius1984's profile picture
Oh yeah Darren, cant fault using water when I look at the S****y water levels on Mums LG on cottons, its no wonder there are so many allergy medications on Pharmacy shelves.

Im convinced Mum has gone back to Ariel Bio which she hasnt touched since the reformulation back in '95 when Carol Vorderman was the face of Ariel. (I spied a bottle of Ariel Bio Liquid when I had a sneaky peek in the utility cupboard while claiming to get a glass of water LOL we all do that at peoples houses eh ?) and is giving everyone mushed up Piritons in meals. LOL

Its the only way she is getting use of it. Not that the 3 high levels in the LG on her Synthetics rinse well either, even when I desperately needed a work shirt one day she insisted it went in with her coloureds load and having to keep my mouth shut about the washer sometimes (due to the fact they dont support said hobby) It was washed in Ariel Sensitive tablets. itch itch itch.

Not long after Mum must have been in my room and picked up some washing and washed it in Daz liquid. same thing happened, im certainly not a genius but one does not understand why last week I was washing in Bio Ariel in the Hottie and yet nothing happened.
Something just aint right with LG's.

Nick, very nice pics, especially you, a handsome man!

I noticed on the Hotpoint there's a coloured synthetics programme, why isn't there a white synthetics one? What programme does one use for white synthetics? I too am a heavy doser on FS, especially with me having my new Frigidaire front loader lol. What I find interesting is thee is more foam in your FS rinse water than with me. It's just the opposite. The FS cuts away any remaining foam I may have had in the next to last (FS) rinse. Again, congratulation on figuring out how to post pics. Bob

Hasten to add, Im never touching Ariel again.

The whites were no better than Persil if we want to argue about whichevers best (not aimed at you Darren), but Ariel is definitely the worst to rinse out.

No one can argue that. So Ariel can do their little 30*c bit and have us all waste water instead eh?

Something else is that Ariel really, do over do it in product packaging.

Take Liquitabs, do they really need to come in that tub which cannot be recycled? Persil has a nice easy to recycle cardboard box with a plastic bag which can be recycled at Supermarket carrier bag bins.

Ariel tabs dont need a foil wrapper, thats just a waste of 2 materials IMHO.

The Ariel detergent bottles have 3 plastic parts. Persil has 1.
The entire bottle, cap and ball are made of the same plastic and can therefore be recycled in the wheelie bin for such items far easily under local government regulations.
LOL.

Crewe and Nantwich Bourough Council have "vigilante's checking and if you put such a Liquitab carton in the silver rec bin you get done for it. Same goes for yoghurt pots, marge tubs etc.

The only plastic they allow are detergent bottles, shampoo, showergel containers and cleaning product bottles rinsed out.

So are PandG really saving the environment?

BTW im currently writing a letter to Lever asking why Comfort Pearls come in a foil bag, hopefully its something they will look at to ensure 100% of their packaging can be rec'd. that would be one over P&G.

Peace ta yall

Nick

A post from "Bob" himself wow!
Am very honoured Sir!

Well as much as one would like the 60*c Synths like on most older machines I have to make do with washing both my white/light synts and colourfast synths on 50*c Coloured Synthetics. obviously i seperate

Noncolourfast Synths get the 40*c acrylics.

I dont wash all my coloureds on 40*c Non colourfast cottons like most Brits do. I like my clothes to last and stay in shape. thats reserved for Jeans and Socks etc etc.

Im a massive believer in following the care label.
However when it comes to pure cotton (i.e. no elastic of nylon content except white socks), white cotton Articles they get the full whack at 95*c which is the only way for dazzling whites. Even if the fibbing label says 40 like it does on most new 100% white cotton table cloths and white linen teatowels..... what is that all about?

There are no compromises to my whites. As any guest who stays always say when they use my bath towels.

Hope ive answered your question Bob.

Take care

Nick

Nick i used persil bio in my quartz today, with a medium sized load with the half load button pressed.

It still rinsed brilliantly. I decided to go back to persil because i cant be assed to faff around rerinsing and such as i have had to do when using P & G stuff. Though its nice to go back to every so often. I've only got today to get thru 5 loads so time is of the essence!

My neighbours must think strange things when they hear the deafenin sound of my quartz & logic on top speed lol.

Nick... nice machine! Reminds me so much of my nana's WM25 her's was a later version of yours, had 1000 spin and four buttons, and also said Aquarius De Luxe 1000 at the top with New Aquarius Wash System written where the Electronic 800 is. Nana's WM25 was far superior to the WM64 piece of tosh we had. The water levels weren't too high on nana's (but then her's did have the new aquarius system where yours doesnt, I think the new Aquarius system used 20 litres less or something), but still rinsed adequately. The final spin was quite good too and even though hers was 1000rpm it spun laundry better than our 1200rpm WM64.

Only thing I didn't like about the old Hotpoints was sometimes that the wash was too short, and often on heavily soiled loads I would wait until the wash was at the end, stop it as soon as it started draining and reset to do the wash cycle again. But on general laundry you couldn't beat the fast wash times of old Hotpoints.

Congratulations on the weight loss btw... I've lost a similar amount of weight - I was 15 stone 5 or 6 Christmas last year with a 38" waist, and now here I am 6 foot 2 and 12 stone 5, and even 34" jeans are too baggy on me!

Nick, yes you did answer my question. And similar scenario exists over here. Seems like all new sheets and towels, even if white, as well as undergarments, all say machine wash warm or even cold. Hot is NEVER mentioned. It's been a discussion of speculation here before. But I think textile manufacturers have a cheaper weave to their fabrics and isn't as sturdy as say 40 years ago as well as they are reducing liability if someone would "damage" the item by doing a hot wash.

Um....

aquarius1984's profile picture
Where do I start, Thanks for all your comments guys!

Blushes slightly about the handsome comments....LOL
You have not seen me before I have had my first morning Coffee is all I can answer to that!

This machine is the No.1 Best Machine ive ever had.

I have to say that even mums which was the last real Hottie produced (well one of them) it still did not have the proper motor noise but I was satisfied for a while because it had the real Hottie drum.

Rob, not too meticulous lately over his appearance. Not cleaned the drawer for 2 weeks. Just not had time too but it does keep clean generally.

The exterior pics show some muck I cant get at i.e. in the dial unless I get some kind of cocktail stick maybe.
Have a week off work this week so I may give him a good going over and maybe change the brushes. The poor fascia is scaratched heavily but not alot I can do about that.

As for the weight loss, ive never been one to eat rubbish so its not been a case of cutting it out like most people. I was always askin for extra veg (love each one although sweet potato is too sweet for me unless I "cut" it with plain mashed potato)as a kid. Once I upset mum by refusing my tea (was about 11 at the time) as she had done chips 3 nights in a row. My younger siblings will only eat junk given half the chance and Mum tended to cater to their tastes on week nights.

The weight was gained by eating meals at silly times when I was a chef. and a constant supply of coke, milky coffees and chocolate from waitresses who wanted to keep us chefs sweet LOL.

Losing it...... Cut out the carbs! but not fully. Now my stomach wont tolerate potatoes unless they are mashed thanks to me cutting them completely. I think its because the Carbohydrate is fully expanded if you know what I mean with the milk and butter. 2 small new poatatoes are enough to fill me and 3 bloat when I start to digest them.

Bread is not too bad, 2 slices of wholemeal toast fills me for hours.

I also believe in drinking plenty of water, when a hunger pang comes on before your due a meal drink a pint of water.
Its amazing how this works. I also have a pint of water with my meals and plate less up for myself.
Regular meal times are essential!

Oh did I mention I tend to walk everywhere? Great excersize.

Darren, good to hear your back on Persil! its the UK's No.1 because it works. who can argue with that.

Jon

hmmmmm Never found a major issue with heavy soiled laundry as Im very good about not getting mucky these days LOL

However when I was cheffing I did need to use a prewash (100ml) and 300ml of NB Persil Powder on a boil to get the whites clean in the Hottie.
Mums previous Hoover Quattro 1300 I managed to get away with 250ml but then the boil was around 2hrs 50 and that was with the "Light Wash" prog 1 used as a pre wash with 80ml.

What gets me is why I have perfect whites in a machine that was probably graded D for wash performance at the time. The standards have not slipped even with the move from my old Zanussi to Mums Lg and now to this.

This washes quicker than an regular 60*c A rated wash on 95*c. This is why I think the hotter the water in a quicker cycle is better than a longer cooler wash. Not excluding the sanitary purpose of said boil wash.

Good on you kiddo for the weight loss too, think you may have mentioned it in a phonecall previously, Its such a great feeling shifting it. I defo have bags more energy and confidence.

And lastly not forgetting Carl!

This dude will never die! While there are plenty of spare parts available which im starting to stock up on .... brushes, door seal next maybe even a motor/programmer.

This machine is with me for life. When Angela decides she can afford a new machine she has decided to give it to me. Bless! she sees the joy I get everytime I use it.

May not be a Liberator but under the hood it essentially is.

Although sadly I cant convince her a Miele is not too expensive for her considerin the rest of the rubbish out these days. Oh and Im banned from sayin the M word too LOL.

Take care guys...
Nick

Had an afterthougt.....

The poor spin performances of todays machines (and I can tell they really are poor) MUST be due to the fact they spend do long "profiling up to whatever'.
There is no force to get that water out.

Im convinced this spins better than Mums 1200rpm LG and Indeed the 1000rpm Hottie Previous.
Even when we had the 1300 Hoover Quattro (AA230) I expected mega dryness and didnt notice much difference in the dryer times from that shitty Candy Activa 1000 we had for all of 4 months.

It just has to be the sheer force of that hurtle up, that gets the water from the fabric to the outer drum.
And of course your Mums Hottie span at 1000 lets face it LOL.
That "30 Second burst to prevent fabric damage" to quote the sales brochure was never more than 10 seconds if that, on any of the 1100 or 1200 machines I ever saw in action.

The table at the back of the sales brochure also made me laugh with this......

WATER PERCENTAGE LEFT IN LOAD AFTER SPIN DRYING

1000rpm 65%
1100 64%
1200 63%

Mums Hottie had Intelligent Care,(your mums would have has sooper dooper Advanced Intelligent Care!) not that it ever seemed to work for the way mum loads her machine.
It was only OOB spin preventer and checked the incoming suppply of water to prevent fabric damage.

She sorts everything onto the floor and the whole load gets rammed into the machine in 3 handfuls. Then she wonders why it used to bang all over the place on spin!!!!!

I would love to see a Miele do a 1600rpm or indeed 1800rpm just going for gold from the distribute.
Im sure we would be able to create a A++ for spin drying that way.

Not that I would buy one of course....

1400rpm in my Old Zanussi was far too much for my liking and only had it because I only wear jeans out of work and wanted them to dry quicker in the winter. And towels for that matter too. Always used to use 900rpm on most things.

Just cant get my head past thinking what my parents and grandparents have always said and that is "anything above 1100 shakes the machine to pieces' ~The Hoover kinda proved that.

Nick

Good points there, Nick. :-)

Regarding spinning, as far as I know, the most important things are the speed and the design of the drum – the more holes there are and the smaller they are, the better. Obviously, the other issue is the spin cycle itself – how the machine spins, etc.

Even low-end Mieles have drums with small holes and plenty of them (Microhole). The Honeycomb ones are even better.

Right… Now… “What’s that? There’s some post for me? There’s a cheque for me here… From Jon? Oh… yeah… That’s for plugging Miele again-----”

WHOOPS! I’ll blurted out my thoughts! LOL

Hottie Motors.....

Hey Nick

The "proper" GDA type motor is unfortunatly obsolete :(. If you order a motor you will get a FHP motor(one of the 3 or more versions used in WMA series machines) and a digital conversion lead. Obviously this means it wont sound the same !- best way of prolonging the life of yours is to use the reaction type carbons(ie the ones in the black holders). They are a slightly softer grade of carbon than the laminated ones and are IMO kinder to the commutator. Also its not that good an idea to replace carbons unless they need it- new ones will always have bad commutation(excessive sparking) until they bed themselves to the shape of the comm and obviously its a good idea to avoid that if possible.

Sure I will think of more useless info by tonight lol!!

Seamus

Hotpoint, Kidnapping and Madonna

Right, everyone… I am going to hatch an evil plan to kidnap Nick’s Hotpoint. ;-)

Now, this won’t be easy, but I’m hoping to do this in order to protect my lovely Lab, Lucy, whom Nick wants to dognap. ;-) Oh, and I’ll have his Persil Silk & Wool liquid for delicates, too. ;-)

Riiiighhttt… All I need to do now is… err… get some way of getting his Hottie out… Hmmm… let’s see… Damn! Nick’s here! Just got to hide… Phew – he’s gone… Hang on… he’s SINGING about his Hottie… to the tune of Madonna’s Hung Up, which I am led to believe is one of Nick’s favourite songs of all time:

Time goes by… washes slowly…
Time goes by… rinses slowly…
Time goes by… spins slowly…

Every little thing that you say or do
I’m hung up
I’m hung up on you
Waiting for the dosing ball
Baby night and day
I’m fed up
I’m tired of waiting on you

Ring, ring, ring goes the telephone
The lights are on but there's no-one home
Tick tick tock the timer goes through
And it’s done
The Hottie’s done it… cool

Carl

PS For the record, I am not on drugs or consuming alcohol; nor am I mad. Like Jon. ;-)

Armed and Somewhat Dangerous

Nick,

I have a small army…

… Namely a handful of people from the shooting club my Dad helps to run…

LOL

There are more members than this! We’ll take your home by force if necessary! ;-)

Here is a pic of my Whites taking a pounding at 95*c with 2 Surf Cool Fresh tabs...

A smallish load than normal, but im sure the Tacho is set faster than normal as it throws loads like this into almost distribution and washes very aggressively.

Not that I would change it of course.

Re: three posts up

Why the banana?

Lovely machine Nick, this reminds me of my Mum's current washer - WM25. It looks really similar. Does it make strange `spingy' type noises as washes?

I wonder how you liked your Surf whites - I think Surf is the best budget detergent and prefer to use the Tropical scent.

Take care,

Nick

Cheers Nick

Um yeah the springy noise is very apparent of late, although in the video I made a couple of days ago you cant hear it.
Thats what makes me think the suspension is on its way out.

That and the fact the drum sits diagonally. See pic although it may not show very well.

Surf.... hmmmm it cleans very well I have to admit and if I was skint it would be my whites choice but I dont know if it will maintain whites ocer time like Persil does.

I personally believe there is a major difference between making stain removal which surf does very well and keeping whites white if that makes sense?

Not too sure on the chemical smell of coolfresh but when that 5kg Box of Persil NB goes I plan on trying Tropical Surf. It smells darn great.

However being pretty anal about my coloureds I would stick to Persil CC.

Ok pic is right hand side of door seal all stretched thanks to the drum sitting funny

Mike both them pics are of the same boil wash. LOL

The yellow handtowel dissaperared under the suds.
as did the green and red teatowel.

I find that such items in the white wash still let me achieve perfect whites.

Um no the Liberator defo has vanished by the looks of it. Im sooo gutted I cant tell you how I feel about becoming so close to owning my dream machine.
Im not going to start a rant about my parents but I sometimes wish they both would just try to understand my passion.

As much as I remeber my Great Nans Liberator TT in action and using a later version in a holiday cottage in Anglesea some 3 years ago, I would love to see the TL Hottie in action. Any vids you have handy?

Much appreciated if you have.

Cheers

I remember that type of drum on my Microtronic. The paddles are very familiar.

Very clean looking machine you have there, Nick. :-)

Matt,

Please pardon my curiosity, but may I ask, what brand of upright vacuum is that?

Is it by chance a Panasonic?

Thanks, Scott

the vaccuum you see is a Samsung. Its a very good vaccuum, i much prefer uprights to cylinder vacs, much easier to use and don't bash into walls like *cough, splutter* Dysons
Heres a glamour shot

Matt good to see you have it set on lowest pile setting.

Reagrdless of the carpet pile i like mine set on low.... cant stand that easy pushing feeling. I need some resistance or I feel the carpets not being cleaned deep down.

My Mum is like that too. if a hoover aint hard to push it aint cleaing LOL

And yup uprights rock. I have a pshycological thing that if the carpet has not seen a brushbar its not clean, amd i dont care much for the cylinders with turbo brushes either.

They just seem so light and flimsy..... and the back problems they create I dont see why people like them.

Nice vacuum! :-)

We had an upright LG that was excellent – not at all expensive and it beat the ones Bosch had!

We did have Dysons, but we recently gave them to relatives. No faults with them, but Mum’s back struggled with the weight – even the lightweight DC03.

Nick, the vacuum cleaner should be at the correct height for each individual floor. :-) However, I know what you are saying about resistance. :-) Also, replace your brush bar about once a year or so!

Our Dysons – and the SEBO we have now – automatically adjust to each surface. The Dyson use a plate; the SEBO has a little wheel underneath that is attached to an onboard computer that monitors the height all the time.

Cylinders can cause back problems, and uprights are generally better at cleaning carpets because of the motorised brush bar, although some Mieles have electrical brush bars.

However, I have been very impressed with the machines from the likes of Electrolux, LG and Samsung. :-)

how come overseas almost everyone has frontloaders?

so im here looking on this site learning things how come the majority of people overseas for example in UK, Spain, Ireland have usually frontloaders? as opposed to us Americans where we have generally more top loaders? lol i know its not just me that thinks that but come to think of it how many times have i seen a commercial with a washer thats a frontloader here in the U.S. not many, i always see that same one with the whirlpool (cabrio) still a toploader lol but then they say "its like a frontloader our best he washer" lol i think thats what its called yeah "cabrio" what does that mean? well now when i watch tv tonight i'll see the commercial and just laugh to myself. ;)

On vacs....

Very cool Samsung! Here, they rebadge many Samsungs as "Bissell".

I just got a Kenmore "Iridium" made by LG, that you may know as the "Cyking" canister (I think it talks?)

Excellent vacuum (although ours don't talk, evidently they know well enough we all have big mouths here already and don't need our machines to talk, lol!)

I returned the Dyson...innovative design, but as mentioned, way too bulky of a footprint to deal with my furniture.

The SEBO Felix is on my wish list....

For vintagesearch....

Front-loaders predominate in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and have for as long as I can remember. The kind of top-loader we're familiar has been in the majority here in North America, and in Australia.

But there are notable exceptions. In France, and to a lesser extent elsewhere in places like Eastern Europe, Russia, etc., sizable numbers of people have top-loading horizontal-axis machines (you open the lid on top, the drum inside is like a FL, but it goes front to back and it springs open, and you load it).

In places like the Middle East and Asia, they still have very cool "twin-tub" TLs with two compartments, one open half where the clothes swirl around and you manually transfer the clothes to a spinner on the other half)....I remember we had them here in the early 70's, but they were rare, I can only remember them because they were Hoovers, and I was a Hoover FREAK! lol...)

There's a retro twin-tub culture here and in the UK and Australia that I didn't even know about till I saw this site!

We had front-loaders here but you saw them mostly in laundromats....now they're hip because they use less water.

My mom's family is from Germany and they sent me there for summers....I'd sit in front of my aunt's front-loader and STARE for hours at the water splashing, the colors going around, while the rest of my relatives stood there at the kitchen door, watching me, not really sure of what to do or say...

for oxydolfin1,

ohh ok good to know, yeah i hear in commercials and see from here that the claims for front loaders is they are "energy efficient" i like that im one of those people who generally like to conserve so in FL thats good and they are bigger than TL's usually. wow i wonder what your family would think when they watch you watching the FL washer lol i wouldnt think anything of it i would laugh though give ya something to drink and say enjoy! im not really a "washing machine lover" however i do an unbeleivable amount of laundry here for everyone including myself besides, everyone heres been great for advice and answering questions.

Granted my cautiousness towards Electrolux Appliances I decided to give them another chance when I bought the hoover above. and they have not let me down this time.

I had problems with my John Lewis Fridge Freezer last december which cost me £150 worth of Christmas food in the freezer. and not a great amount as it was bought at Waitrose.....Costly! The PCB board blew twice the week before Xmas meaning the food in the freezer was written off, I was not bothered about the cheese and stuff I keep in the fridge but my Xmas turkey in the freezer? not a happy bunny..... John Lewis got Serviceforce out and after the 2 PCB boards they replaced the entire appliance. Luckily I had the money to replace all the xmas food, but what if i didnt?

I had to apply in writing to get my money back on the food.. hardly instant compensation. Christmas could have been ruined.

Well anyway after hearing of Jons Mums Zanussi I think that was the final straw for me and I cooled off them.

However Angela had Laminate floor thru the ground floor of the house and carpets throughout upstairs. Now not getting on with her cylinder cleaner I decided to source an upright for my own sanity. The Panasonic she has, the extension poles are so short even my 5'8 midget body finds them too short. So I found this is ASDA for £90. I know a good hoover just by looking at it and this is no exception. I empty its box weekly when its chocka, the suction is very constant and it never misses a cat hair.

Even the Turbobrush is great, and better than a Dysons effort. Although I dont use it downstairs on the laminate (of which i use a normal soft brush to sweep a pile of rubbish up and leave it at the bottom of the stairs for when I clean them.

Then suck it up with the hose.

Naturally Im a die hard Dyson fan if I had the money but thhis may change that if it lasts as long as the Electrolux Airstream ESP my Grandad has from 1994.
Im not banking on having a new one for years TBH.

I like how Dysons change to suit the carpet but they do stay very close in contact with the floor, however on variheight machines I always have to have it on bare floor for my own liking sorry LOL :-)

The exception is the Airstream mentioned above.. on my Grandads living room carpet which has a pile of about 4mm it is impossible to push. The power is incredible! So you have to have it on medium, and that resists enough! The carpet at that height setting still gets the "Ive just had a Hoover Senior Over Me' look too with the tram lines LOL.

And its showing no signs of slowing down either!

Well anyway I have seen the Miele cylinders with the motorized brush but the Vax we had in the late 80s had a Turbobrush and it was awful. they never seem to make full contact with the carpet and the lightness of the tubes etc makes me think the carpets aint getting cleaned deep down. I think you need the weight of the hoover body to keep contact.

Ok im waffling now so im off.... LOL

Nick

Samsung/Bissell?

That Samsung vacuum you have is almost the direct copy of my Bissell bagless! So who copied who?
And I do mean copy, like, the cyclone system is an exact replica.

I've got the now broken (for now) Hotpoint WF220 waiting for repairman to get a new panel.
And for the vac. I have a fantastic Dyson DC15 aka the ball, in Allergy class white and silver. I'll send pics as soon as I can find my goddam USB lead.
