I just stumbled upon something absolutely beautiful but oh so mysterious. When I first seen the photo of this machine I figured it was an SQ made Amana, as anyone else would, and then they zoomed into the control panel and it’s clearly a speed Queen with a Maytag label on it….first of all what the hell? I had no idea Maytag affiliated with Alliance at any period before the last buyout. Very very strange stuff….I’d love to have this model even had an extra rinse switch. Very rare for sure and figured some of you would be intrigued.

Can't say for sure, but

I think this pre-dates Alliance.  I have also seen basically this same washer with a GE badge on the console.  From what I've seen and read here, I would tend to stay away from it.

Yes run away. Maytag bought Amana in 2001 and when they started mixing their Herrin design with the Amana design it was disastrous for them. Since this one has the Maytag name on it I would assume that it is one of those models. I am kind of amazed though that 20 years later one still exists. The Amana machines built before this were still good machines except for center seal troubles that ruined the top bearing and caused many repair folks to misdiagnose as a transmission failure.

Sears sold this washer and dryer

I worked at Sears in 2002 in the lawn and garden center right across from appliance central. They had this exact Maytag washer with the matching dryer. Home Depot had the same exact set except with GE on them around the same time frame.

It didn’t look old enough to be built by Raytheon…looks like the alliance generation as they have the same style control panel as the Alliance built Amanas, but who knows what a strange unit. And wow GE too. What will I find next I wonder? A Speed Queen with a Kenmore Elite badge on it? Lol

Definitely not an Alliance. After Raytheon sold off their laundry business (Amana and Speed Queen), Amana went to something called Goodman Industries and Speed Queen was out of the home laundry business for a while, only doing commercial stuff. So what you have there is a Goodman built Amana with a Maytag label. For some reason which I cannot immediately remember, Goodman also supplied machines to GE and Maytag ( I believe it was due to production issues at their own factories - in GE's case it might have been a labor strike). They looked the same as the current Alliance built Speed Queens, but they couldn't be more different. I bought an Amana unit in 2000 and as the previous comments support, it lasted three years because of the main tub seal issue. Sometime around 2002, Maytag bought Amana, which in many ways made the problem worse. Maytag repairmen had no idea how to fix the Goodman built Amanas. In my case, they replaced the spin bearing three times in two years. Then when the Maytag trained repairman came to finally try and replace the faulty main tub seal, he spent 6 hours and had the machine entirely apart, concluding that he couldn't fix the unit. End of story was that the retailer, a local outfit ended up taking the machine back and replacing it with a different brand. The matching dryer (also Goodman built) however, performed well and lasted 15 years with no repairs. But then I'm not that rough on dryers and hang a lot of my laundry outside.
Alliance put Speed Queen back into the home laundry business sometime around 2006.

Goodman is an HVAC manufacturer.  Originated in 1975 San Antonio TX making air registers and flexible ducting.  Got into HVAC in 1982 upon acquiring Janitrol.  Aquired Raytheon appliances division (Amana) circa 1997, sold it to Maytag in 2001.  Goodman HVAC production moved to Houston after being bought by Daikin in 2012.  Produces (or has produced) HVAC branded Goodman, Amana, Daikin, Franklin, and Janitrol.
