Hey all,

Can I get some help filling in the gaps? Westinghouse had 3 generations of slant front laundromat. The pre/early post war model, the ~1949-1958 model, and the 1959-1963 Potato Pulley model.

Guts wise, when did the dryers change up... or did they? I know there was a clothes dryer at least in the post war 40s that matched the first generation slant front.

Thanks so much.

The early dryers used a roller to rotate against the basket, and a manual resetting thermal protection system, that changed in the early fifties, maybe 1952.
The design implemented after that was the belt drive design, which they modified slightly in 1959, which used a blower wheel to pull air thru the basket, instead of the positive air flow system we see on the classic slant front.
The traditional air flow which was probably introduced in 64 , I think lasted thru the nineties. The cheapened it with a non porcelain drum, and some other stuff , and tried the auto reverse tumbler method..that didn't last...

Was Westinghouse the first electric clothes dryer?

Nevermind. It was Hamilton. I appreciate the info! Did Westinghouse have one to match the slant front before WWII?

Will, I have never seen or heard of Westinghouse dryer to match their pre-war Laundromat.   Dryers were a relative latecomer to the world of home appliances it would seem.

The earliest I found any mention of clothes dryers in Westinghouse advertising was 1945, and it said they would be coming soon. The 1946 ads featured them as an available item.

Our first dryer was a 1963 Westinghouse; the last of the slant-front models. Several neighbors had dryers as far back as I can remember, even those with a wringer washer.

Golittlesport's mom had a wringer washer and a 1955 Frigidaire Filtrator.
