Yes it’s a Norge built Montgomery Wards set from around 1980. Good thing they are far away or I would have them already. Lol

Nice.

I wonder how good of shape they are. I kinda want to go get them and make sure they go to a good rescue home. Do they have the white Norge agitator ?

Yes they look to be in great shape and the washer would have the “burpolator” agitator with the filter pan. The dryer is the huge Herrin design with the positive airflow from the large fan behind the drum.

Norge?

Yep, but it’s actually a Montgomery Ward set that Norge has built for them.

Yep, it’s a Norge.

Surely, but there's no way I can fetch or ship them from FL or NY.

I replied. So glad I was able to save them for someone. It makes the hunting for machines much better. Now if I can only find a Kenmore
By drive set. For myself.

Why cannot someone post pictures for those who refuse to belong to facebook.

At 40+ years old, it's safe to say that neither machine -- the washer in particular -- has seen much use at all.   Great score for someone who loves fixing washers.

And what is up with FBM?  I happened to scroll a bit into "Today's Picks" and it was littered with ads in Spanish for latina hookers shaped like Jane Russell.

Chris, thank you so very much for the close-up pics of the washer. This looks to be in terrific condition. These were probably 3rd from the TOL model. If you are able to, I'd love to see the same close-up photos for the dryer!! Bob

Washer serial translates as May 1983, if the translation I found is correct.

What a great find!  That washer would run about $1300 in today's money.  Quite pricey!

Chris, thank you!! A couple of fascinating points that harken all the way back to our 1964 Norge dryer. First of all--on the right-hand side of the timer dial display were the words Wrinkle-Out Dryer. Second is the auto dry cycles. As here, our dryer had an auto dry for regular fabrics and an auto dry for Wash'n'Wear. Both cycles had a designated area in that cycle with the word "Start" where you positioned the pointer/dial. Regular also had a shorter cool down than the Wash'n'Wear cycle, which was about 10-12 minutes. Our dryer also had an air fluff cycle that had a designated Start area on it just like the other two auto dry cycles. Our dryer also did not have temperature selections. Even though it was the TOL model, I always felt it was cheapened. Not until I was a member here did I learn about our dryer as well as downloading the service manual for our dryer, that it had 2-step/variable heat input similar to Sears' Soft Heat feature initially offered on LK dryers in like 1963 or 1964.

I hope you saw the link to the Monkey Wards catalog that advertised this pair.

That's what the inside of my mothers Norge    looked like and growing up. Did Norge ever adjust there washing action? My Moms was like a 1970 something.

That was the roughest washer on everything. The agitation was not smooth it was jerk back and forth harshly  it was it hitting stop in the transmission. Even opening the lid during spin there was no brake it just hit a wall it sounded like.

We could not keep towels until mom started buying high priced ones but even then it would shred them. I always wondering if there was something wrong with ours. My Grandmothers 1970s filter flo was smooth and made that classic sound I am hearing in my head now..

That norge was worse on clothes that that Kitchenaid  Shred-more that replaced it..

Gorgeous machines, bullet proof reliability  , I wish lint filters were still around...

Typical Norge marking its territory. I knew and got to play with 2 Norges. One from the 70's and the other from the mid 80's...both were 1 speed machines. From both owners, all towels were shredded, cuffs of pants were shredded, button up dress shirts looks like they went went through a war. The earlier Norges that had the fat round agitator fins probably washed nicely without destroying fabrics (and they rinsed much better, too) but when they went that thin reverse arc agitator design (late 60's?)...total destruction was eminent.

Bullet proof reliability

😂

Did somebody actually make that assertion?  About a Norge?
