Hey all, I have a 1990 Whirlpool dryer, it is missing the clip that the metal piece stick into as you close the door therefor the switch is not working and we have it taped for now, where can I find another piece as this is a very old model? The model number on mine is LG8861. This piece sticks onto the door where it meets up with the metal that sticks into it. I’ve found others but I wanna be sure I get the correct size, not sure if they are all the same I know nothing about dryers only the washers.

I bought this dryer alongside a direct drive over a year ago and they’ve done wonders for us, love these machines but it’s time for a step up and I’m going to scour the area in about a month when I get my tax returns for a 1980s Maytag washer at the least, I’ve had enough direct drives in my life and it’s time for something much different and I’d say a bit nicer. But for now I’d like to fix this and also want to fix it so I can sell it as well.

Part Number

The door catch part number should be 690081. A Google search turns up many of these available from multiple vendors.

LG8861 is not a full model number.  LG8861XWQ0 comes up as the only match on the partial number so presumably that is it.

279570 is the current part number, which substitutes for the original 690081 and several others.  It includes multiple catches of different spring tensions/colors and and multiple strikes.  Follow the included instructions for which pieces to use. Various doors/models take different tensions, some have two latches ... the kit covers all situations.  Shop the part number for best price/shipping.  The source I typically use lists it for $4.25 but shipping is always the gotcha for a low-$ item.  Maybe an eBay storefront seller has a free shipping offer.

Yes that’s the full number. I found the old one in the door inner panel but it’s busted of course, so I’ll order the new one thank you
