What year(s) did Frigidaire make commercial "jetcone" washers?

After looking at this POD, probably for the 10th time, I have a thought.

Austin has a WC. I have a WC. We discussed the lid switch being in different locations. Mine, near the hinges, sort of a plunger type. Austins, near the console mounted to the top in the center of where the lid would close, trigger type.

Wonder if these two (2)totaly different lid switches have or had anything to do with GM running out of tops and using the ones that were suppose to be on commercial machines? Or, was commercial machines started after the switch was located by the hinge?

Your thoughts?

Steve

The lid switch was moved from the hinge to the back of the lid opening August 1978 -- "to eliminate the possibility of moisture contamination in the switch."

Steve, here is the history of coin-op Frigidaire washers as I know it...

1959 - 1960 25" Unimatic 8lb Coin-Op, 3-Ring Agitator
1961 - 1063 27" Unimatic 8lb Coin-Op, 3-Ring Agitator
1963 - 1964 27" Unimatic 12lb Coin-Op, Deep-Action Agitator
1965 - 1969 27" Super-Duty*, Deep Action Agitator
1970 - 1975 Solid Tub Rollermatic with Deep-Action Agitator
1970 - 1977 1/18 Style Washer - perforated tub, Rollermatic, but the fill level was only to the 16lb level or up to the last cone.

*Super-Duty was a Mutlimatic transmission with the clutch and motor-start capacitor changed to produced a 1010rpm spin.

That sure shows you where their reliability faith was in terms of mechanisms. I'm kind of surprised they put a Multimatic of any derivation into the fray at all...

POD Lids/Tops

Did you notice that in the picture, they retained the original top design of the domestic 1-18 with the recessed hand scoop on the right, even though the commercial machine lid opens front to back? Looks funny to me! Phil

Oh LAWD, guess I was wrong about the lid switch. Ok guys, thanks for all the input. Very educational here. I was unaware.
