last I looked. You can get a b.o.l. machine by them or GE for about $350 or so. |

Find a used, low mileage well taken care of Kenmore UltraWash with the Powerclean module.
I don't think you'll be satisfied with the performance of a cheap dishwasher whether it's new or used.
Yes, new dishwashers seem to have a very low lifespan theses days and I don't see that problem going away in the future. |

I agree with Dan. Kenmore Ultra Wash machines are both reliable and good at what they do. Similar machines can be found under the Whirlpool and KitchenAid brands. They're all excellent performers and show up in on-line classifieds for cheap fairly often.
Here's an example of a Kenmore I found for $30 several years ago: |

. . . with no sign of giving up the ghost any time soon. I vinegar-wash it every 4 weeks because of our hard water. CLICK HERE TO GO TO joeekaitis's LINK This post was last edited 03/27/2022 at 12:15 |

The graphics remind me of the second generation Maytag, after the reverse racks.

Consumer Reports claims the new Whirlpools, and the Bosch are the best rated overall.
I like the Bosch, but dislike the smaller racks, Doe's anyone have a new Whirlpool unit, and would you recommend them? My old Point Voyager KA is starting to linger like a bad fart! I think I'm on borrowed time. Appreciate the feedback in advance! Hugs, David |

I would take that Whirlpool Power clean if its in good working order, The power-clean edges out my KDS21 Kitcheaid cause you can throw the whole dinner in the dishwasher and it will grind it up and dispose of it. My Power clean Kenmore had a dispose function on the cycle.. The Kitchenaid has a full blown grinder in it also but food can barley reach it. The Power-cleans run for 20 years easy with min up keep. |

My Bosch SHU43C has lasted about 18 years. I had to replace the drain pump about five years ago. Fairly easy. It's a little fussy about food scraps, so I usually make sure plates etc that go in there are scraped free of such debris. This is probably because it doesn't have a little shredding thingie in the sump. BFD, that never worked all that well in the Frigidaire. The Frigidaire's plastic sump screen would warp in the heat, and then let debris into the recirculation system to clog the spray arms. The all stainless Bosch has never done that. I would avoid all plastic dishwashers, from my experience with the warping debris screen in the Frigidaire. I suppose I could have cut a stainless steel screen to replace it, but didn't think of that. It's in some junk pile by now.

Do you have hard water? If so, the water valve could be plugged up and underfilling the machine.
Let the dishwasher fill and stop the machine once it begins washing. Wait a minute or two to let the water completely drain and snap up a picture of the water level. We'll be able to help determine if it's underfilling. |

"Let the dishwasher fill and stop the machine once it begins washing. Wait a minute or two to let the water completely drain ..." Just to say, interpret that to mean for the pumped water to drain out of the spray arms so the visual in bottom of the tub is the full filled level. Dishwashers typically fill properly on a range of water pressure between 20 and 120 psi. |
