This should be fun! What is your favorite washer/dryer? I'll start: The 1955-1959 GE Combo washer/dryer in turquoise! (My favorite washer/dryer used to be the 1950-1955 Westinghouse Laundromat/Clothes Dryer.)

My grandparent's Kenmore 90 Series top load washer along with the matching electric dryer that they used to have. I am now a proud new owner of the washer since my grandfather just recently passed.

At least 10 years ago, I sold the Blackstone 350 that was used in our family. It was in our kitchen; we lived behind the store (Acme Electronic Co. in Springfield, Mass.). This old AW thread shows that 350, including date stamps inside, showing when my father and I did repair work.
I don't know where this 350 is right now, but this 10-year-old Imperial thread displays it. This is My Favorite Washing Machine. Obviously. CLICK HERE TO GO TO Blackstone's LINK

Paul, when you use your beautiful GE combo, do you put heavier items through a machine that actually extracts water before putting them back in to dry? I did with almost anything I put through my combos, even Brenda Bendix. Now I re-spin most everything in one of the Mieles. |

It’s hard for me not to pick all of my machines as my favorites, but If I had to choose just one machine, it would be my 2001 Kenmore Elite Catalyst washer. I’ve had it for less than a year but it’s so versatile, and provides a strong cleaning, no matter what cycle is selected. Plus the Catalyst cleaning action is beautiful in itself!
~ pictures shown are with whirlpool and Kitchenaid dual action agitators. This machine from factory has a Ultimate Care agitator, I just don’t have any pictures of it currently with that agitator~ |

My favorite machines of all time are the 1966-1980 “new generation” central dial Maytags, specifically the A-108 and DE-406 series 01 from my childhood, although, I have come to appreciate the A-208 and DE-408 a lot more since acquired a set from 1978 not quite a year ago. Here’s a few pictures of them.

I rescued this from the crusher, did some minor repairs and ran it for 1 year. I was so impressed with it, I tore it down and did the typical hardcore Qsd-Dan rebuild and have been enjoying the machine for 13 years without one single repair.

Childhood family Servis Supertwin Twintub washer, was used 3 times a week , 2 hrs a session, sometimes on a saturday when required for a family of 6 for 16 years, it had a yearly maintenance contract , usually just motor brushes required
but only had 2 spin motors and 1 outlet hose replaced in all that time !!

Hello Statomatic, Servis UK where the only independent laundry manufacturer and from day one in 1929 offered an man and a van to look after any issues with these new fangled machines in the customers home. for a few pounds a year an engineer would turn up to inspect your machine and change any parts, brushes , hoses etc so keeping it in tip top condition, if then your machine stopped working you phoned the local Servis Service dept and and engineer would come out to fix the washer in your home.

Ken, you've got excellent taste. My Godfather's wife got the WCI65 to replace her worn out WO65-2 and I got to play with the WCI65 over the span of 2-3 years from almost brand new. She didn't have a dryer until like 1966 or 1967. She got her sister's 1952-1954 Filtrator dryer after her sister got a new matching pair, obviously another Frigidaire pair no doubt. The WCI65 was replaced with an avocado 1/18, but I never got a good look at it to see exactly which model and when it was acquired as I was away attending college from summer 1973-May 1977 and was at their house the last time sometime between fall 1977 and during 1978. The Filtrator dryer was replaced with an avocado Hotpoint dryer. Their coppertone/brown Tappan Dual-Drench dishwasher was replaced with a TOL brown Hotpoint Potwasher with Sani-rinse option. And would you believe their late 1940s/early 1950s Frigidaire fridge was still being used in the late 1970s?

![]() Most Maytag Washers between 1970 and 1989 followed by 1980s Kenmore belt drives.
@Panasonicvac: I'm drooling over that washer. The best washer ever made overall, with the best fabric combinations ever offered of any TL washer ever made. Infinite water level control, true ATC, warm deep rinse option, true 4/6/8 pole motor, fine delicates handwash, real permanent press cool down, prewash, soak, extra rinse, 49 increment timer with 7.5/6 degrees per step, dual action agitator, softener dispenser, all in a long life platform. Only gripe is the lack of spin spray in the first spin of the ultra clean and PP cycles but other than that your machines makes me so envious LOL! I can certainly understand your love for that washer, and I will add you have great taste!

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, my favorite washer of all time was our 1974 Frigidaire 1-18. If it had a fault, it would be that it was kinda noisy. Next or the list are these machines:
2. 1980's TOL Whirlpool direct drive. 3. 1970 Maytag 806--Other than design and reliability, there really was nothing that stood out about its performance. 4. 2008 Electrolux TOL front-loader. The rear end seals and bearings went out in six years. But, it was a great performer. 1964 Lady Kenmore Piano Key TOL. Enough options to cause feature paralysis. I would have rated it number 2 if it weren't for the anemic spin of the belt drive machines. 5. Fisher-Paykel Aqua-Smart performed well but was less than gentle on clothes. |
