The ‘High Temp’ warning alarm started beeping about an hour ago. I pressed the ‘Turbo Freeze’ pad, but the fan doesn’t seem to be blowing air into the freezer. I hear a hum, as if the compressor is running, but no air movement from the vents on the back wall of the freezer.

It’s a frost-free model, 4 years old. Although branded GE, I believe it’s made by LG.

The freezer is full, so the financial hit would be substantial if everything thaws. So far, everything feels frozen. I’m hesitant to open the door again, as the local appliance store doesn’t open till 8:00 tomorrow morning.

Any guidance or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Eugene, if the inside fan quits running the food in the top 1/2 of the freezer will not stay cold enough to stay frozen, the food in the bottom half will stay frozen if you don't open the door too much.

I would open the door and see if the food seems warmer in the top half, if so pack everything possible into the bottom half and move other stuff to your regular ref and to friends refs.

The fan may have failed or gotten blocked by ice, hopefully you can get someone out soon.

Thanks for the info and sharing your service experience, John! Greatly appreciated.

I quickly pulled the frozen raw meats and jammed them into the freezer section of the fridge. The upper half of the freezer is primarily filled with those entree-sized, blue-lidded Zip-Loc containers of portioned, cooked foods. The rest is mostly bags of frozen vegetables and that sort of thing—the least expensive to replace.

I unplugged the freezer for about half an hour, then plugged it back in. It seems to be working again. The fan is blowing cold air. Think I’ll still call the appliance store owner (who also does the service) and let him know it happened, just in case he wants to have a fan motor on hand or maybe open it up to see if there was ice/frost build-up around the fan blades.
