How common are these cycle defrost Hotpoint fridge freezers? I believe it dates from 1968 or 1969. Just curious what our chances are of finding any replacement parts!
It came out of a collapsed 1950s mobile home, where it was left abandoned for 20 years. Its companion range didn’t survive as it was completely rotted out, aside from a few salvageable parts.
The evaporator has been nailed with an ice pick, but we’re enthusiastic and adventurous/foolish enough to want to repair it. My husband is skilled with metalworking. From reading through repair manuals, I’ve got a fairly decent idea of how the whole thing is assembled.
My logic is that these virtually never show up in my area (too many house flippers in western WA), and the cost of repairs could equal that of having another example shipped in from out of state.
I'd imagine these were very common during the late 60's and 70's. Hotpoint was widely used in apartment and condo complexes at that time, and many were smaller, cycle defrost models. One of my friends lives in a condo that was originally an apartment built in 1972. The original refrigerator looked almost exactly like that, but in Avocado. It went bad not long after I met him (1998), and was replaced. He still has the matching range.
