Dead weight That's mainly the difference between free standing and under counter models over here. Idea is to keep the machine from tilting over when a heavy basket is rolled out onto the door. Usually your counter does that, here it is that weight. | ||

The counter balancing makes sense, but my Ultra Wash portable and Maytag Reverse rack portable do not have any counter balance installed. Of course both of those machines use a lot more steel and lot less plastic. I will say the plastic tub seems to be quieter. | ||
