Ironically this machine was my main washer for much of the last 30 years or so.
I completed the restoration in 1978, I converted it to a Suds-Saver, Extra-large Capacity, Porcelain cabinet and stepped the spin speed up to just over 700RPMs.
The center-post rusted and cracked about 8 years ago and the machine was side-lined for repair. My friend Bob in Cleveland found a donor base-plate and tubs from an 1970 Super-Capacity WP washer. We had a SS sleeve welded over the center post tube and completely went through the machine even installing an LED console light.
I said ironically at the start of this post because I just finished this machine yesterday and did the first test load in it in the shop.
It will be moved into my new laundry room in the next weeks and installed next to the matching gas dryer that was redone a few months ago.
Trivia The 1970 LKM was the first with the quiet pack belt and the last LKM to offer a reversible lid and the option of an all porcelain cabinet.
[ Maytag never could offer an all porcelain cabinet on their washer or dryers because their cabinets were flimsy and the porcelain would have cracked and chipped when the machines were assembled or serviced ]

Hi Charles yes I will try to get some pictures posted in the next day or two.
As you only live a short distance away you’ve always been welcome to come and see things in person as well. I prefer to be addressed as John not combo 52 however that’s why I sign everyone of my posts with John just as you sign your name to your post thanks John L |
