I have a kenmore limited edition washer that i am wanting to get rid of… reason… is because the design of the washer doing lower speed agitation with smaller water levels on the normal cycle and permanent press… the light works on it as well… make your best offer as long as it is not below $100… also, uf anyone can help me tweek the wires to not do that lower speed agitation on lower water levels i would want to keep it… otherwise i want to sell it to another collector for a price of at least $100… i am hoping to sell or get help to fix this washer ASAP…

I would NOT sell or modify this machine. The reason it defaults to a lower speed is to prevent excess wear on fabrics. It is working as it is intended. If you don't like the lower speed use a different cycle. This is one of the best TL AWs ever made.

I’d just leave the machine alone. This is the reason why I am partial to Maytag A806s (Maytags with speed selections) along with the Kenmore 80 series direct drives that have 3 speeds since I can select the speeds I want without having the machine decide for me.

Catalyst does the same with agitation speed tied to the water level, which is a good thing.  Longer wash time at slower speed is more effective with enzyme detergents than short time at thrashing speeds.  I love the soak option on my F&Ps, which inserts a soak period in middle of the wash.

@whirly kenmore… if anything has excess wear in fabrics it would be larger loads with faster agitation because the heavy stuff up top has more downward force on the stuff that us against the fins… its science and the laws of physics just like the harder we press something onto sand paper the more and faster it will shave… and the faster the movement as well makes it speed up the sanding process…

My Kenmore 80 DD can do a fast/fast on any water level. As others have pointed out though, the agitation is too rough the lower the level.

Your position is that small loads are good at 180 spm agitation but large loads are better at 120 spm (does Perm Press reduce to 90 spm?) because they're heavier?

@DADoES exactly why i got rid if my catalyst i do the certain cycles because if the speed it literally says on the touchpad and when i do a small load it does not to the agitation speed that cycle is rated for… exactly why i hate whirlpool the only good whirlpools are the belt drives and the standard capacity direct drives that have at least three water levels and has a temperature switch… and the older style slanted top direct drives as well… especially the 6 cycle especially the ones with the chrome side trim end caps… a thing about me when i replaced my washer i had since i was born i have been seeing white trim end cap whirlpool washers and that tricked me into thinking of that was mine and then when i saw a picture of my old one it had the solver/chrome trims… so i am not that big on the slanted tops with the white trim end caps… cuz they fooled me…

This is why I am more partial to machines with long stroke agitation and optional wash and spin speeds I can select independently. Never had anything damaged in my Maytags along with my Whirlpool belt drive washer. Short stroke machines really aren’t that gentle on clothes unless you can select the wash and spin speeds independently.

@ BlockEight88 and @DADoES

According to the laws of physics the heavier loads make more force against the agitator which means the washer needs to work harder… experiment with plastic and sand paper and take your notes and then tell me what happens… as i thought it is the same as the washer because when we use more force against the sand paper/ rubbing the plastic or whatever item against the sand paper at a faster speed and the resault brom both pressure aka force and more speed will make it sand away faster…

Lower speeds.

Personally on SMALL LOADS ONLY. On my 1989 Kenmore 80 series. I personally put it on delicate wash. On small loads The turnover is just fine. Slow Agitation only sucks on full loads. My Whirlpool World washer. I just select Cottons/Heavy at 14 minutes instead of Cottons/Normal at 10 Minutes. @DADoEs I agree that longer agitation at slower speeds does work well. My AquaSmart is one of the best machines I have ever used. Same with my Intuitive and Calypso. Speaking of the Calypso. I'm going to pick up a matching electric dryer Tomorrow! Along with the washer but it's too far gone. I'm going to save every single part that's left on it. The appliance center wanted the console off of it.

that's an excellent machine!!!!

You should definitely keep that washer!! I had that machine an absolutely loved everything about it. It's the most versatile washer that I've ever used. With all the optional features you can alter the cycles to just about make the machine do anything. The slower agitation on the lower water levels on those cycles are designed that way to prevent damages to clothing....especially more delicate items.

If you are adamant about the agitation speed than don't use the lowest water level. go up one level and you'll eliminate the slow down in agitation.
