My favorite aunt had one like this that was bought in 1956. Hers had a reservoir in the door that could be filled with water and there was a spout at the bottom of the handle that when you pulled the top of the handle ice water was dispensed.
One hot Summer day in 1962 my three cousins and my brother and sister and I thought it would be ever so handy if we filled the reservoir with Sonny Boy, which was a syrup that came in various fruit flavors like Kool Aid and was mixed with water. So we did just that with my older cousin Ray mixing up the Sonny Boy in the reservoir. Well our new cold drink fountain was short lived! Aunt Imogene hit the ceiling when she got a load of what we’d done. We had one helluva time cleaning that Sonny Boy out of Aunt Imogene’s Shelvador! We used Thrill dishwashing liquid and the first few fills of ice water tasted like Thrill, and Imogene was anything but Thrilled! Those were the days! Eddie |

Eddie, we all have stories along these lines from our childhood.
My most spectacularly bad decision was to install an extension phone in my bedroom by digging an old oval base phone set out of a box in the garage and sticking two of its wires into the electrical outlet. The phone started smoking and I ran out of the room. My older sister had to go in and yank the wires.
My dad was not amused, and made me live with the scorched outlet to remind me never to do anything like that again.
That's a very smart looking Crosley indeed. It strikes me as a V-handle wanna-be. Now that would have been a really cool and impressive bit of engineering. |
