Hey everybody. Happy 4th of July! I have something that's been on my mind lately. I've noticed that the Whirlpool direct drive and GE filter-flo gear oils smell the same to each other. This was when both machines were operating on separate occasions. I remember when I put my head down on the floor and started listening to the motors on both machines, and I smell gear oil, primarily during agitation and spin.
I also remember the time when I touched the oil, and I noticed just how thick they were. They both felt super strong, and smelled strong too. What do you guys think? That's the only thing that the whirlpool and GE seem to have in common is the gear oil they use.

smells like 90 weight

That whirlpool gear oil smells like 90 weight gear oil which the GE filter-flo uses. I hope that GE filter-flo doesn't get mad at Whirlpool for using its oil.

oil quality

Is it the quality of the gear oil that causes the transmission to agitate quietly at times? That's what I'd also like to know.

Whirlpool DD and GE FF oils

I found out that the whirlpool direct drive transmission uses 90w gear oil, while the GE filter-flo uses 40w gear oil from an appliance tech from just answer. Now I know why the 2 oils smell the same.
