These are easy to make from a good quality felt strip.
I would not use the later white ones as they are made with polyester which melts and burns if it comes loose and falls on the heater element as would often happen with the felt guards.
This was a terrible design, the heater guard should have been mechanically fastened in place, neither GE nor WP could have ever gotten away with such a dangerous design.

Maytag should have used a similar support system/drum bearing that the small door 29” dryers used which definitely would have made Maytag HOH dryers virtually last forever if they went about changing the design. I do agree that the Maytag HOH dryers had their quirks but GE (along with WCI and Westinghouse) seemed to have gotten away with making a dryer which in many ways is a bit more dangerous than the HOH design since there’s a 5600 watt heating element that’s just inches away from the drum that can easily scorch or ignite things if overloaded. Yes, the Maytag HOH dryers could scorch items if overloaded but usually the very sensitive 170F high limit thermostat would kick the heating element off since the airflow was being restricted. Not sure what temperature the high limit thermostat kicks the heating element on a GE, Westinghouse, or WCI dryers is but definitely kicks off the heating element at a much higher temperature.

Looks like wool felt or something similar that John used on a Maytag Halo Of Heat dryer he restored back in 2012. Since I have a lot of felt weatherstripping left over from 2019, maybe I’ll try to make a few felt seals and see how they hold up and if they do I’ll sell them to anyone who needs one but will have to see how they hold up first.
