Afternoon All,
I finally took delivery this morning of this gorgeous washer from Italy, it is New old stock Westinghouse from the 70’s, never used. The boot/gasket has totally perished, anyone got any suggedtions ? Another guy on here kindly said that. Kenmore or Frigidaire front loader boots from the 90’s can be adapted ? I would love to get the machine going. I am also looking for a “Heavy duty” badge was has got lost in transit. Any help would be really appreciated :) Cheers Keith |

WOW Kieth a brand new WH Washer, that design would be a late 60s machine in the US but who knows when this one was built, it will be interesting to find out when you get into it.
I would have a good used boot for this washer that we could send.
Darren is going to be over here in mid September I could maybe send it home with him.

Other than slight differences in the control panel, this looks like the '64 Westinghouse washer we had. That was the first year for this cabinet design. |

Thats a very great find and a beautiful Westinghouse FL. I bought one very similar to this one used in 1980 for I believe $150.00. Unfortunately it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped for and the dealer that I bought it from had told me that I had 30 days to exchange it and apply the purchase price to another machine.
I traded it for a new Maytag Fabricmatic, which was a good machine, but I was disappointed that the Westinghouse didn’t work out. I’d really wanted an FL and the new ones were just too expensive for me at the time. I hope you get many years of good service from this great find! Eddie |

The 600 is the model with the three water temperatures. We had the LTF590 with the 4 water temperatures which included cold wash temperature. |

That's a great score and looks to be in wonderful shape but for the boot. My family had the LTF590 like Tom's family did. Looked exactly like this machine but as Tom mentioned had four water temperature combinations instead of three. Does this one have a tub light? The LTF590 did; and it had two cycles - regular and permanent press (which was just a short cycle.) I think we got ours in 1965.

I’m going to guess and say 1964-66 for this Westinghouse Front-Load Washer. —Charles— |

What would you do...
Morning All, I recently posted that I had shipped from Italy to the UK a brand new Westinghouse LTF600 washer dating from the mid-60's, whilst the boot gasket needs replacing which I have managed to source a replacement I am wondering if I need to do anything before switching the machine on for the first time ? would a any parts needs greasing / oiling ? filling with warm water and soaking to allow parts to re-hydrate ? any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Regards Keith |

Hi Keith, I would remove the pack panel and check that everything moves freely and maybe put a few drops of light machine oil on the idler idler pulley bearing, rear pump idler bearing and the rear helix spring behind the large black center pulley. You just remove the 1/2"bolt in the center and it lifts off easily [ this spring was greased at the factory but a few drops of light oil will rejuvenate the grease ]and reassemble.
I would also poor about a gallon of very hot tap water in the tub and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
We can't wait to hear how it goes.

Did one have to fork out an arm and a leg to get that machine over to the UK? |

Over here it would cost about $1500 just to get a 55 kg machine imported and that was if it already was all mounted to the crate and all that good stuff |

Morning John.L,
Well i have finially got round to replacing the boot on the Westinghouse LTF-600. The manual says no wrinkles ? Whilst the boot lip looks a little wavy i did everything according to what the manual says..does this look ok ?? The door needs a bit of pressure now to close it, i guess until the boot settles down. Now for a test hopefully next weekend. Many thanks again. Cheers Keith |

Yay Keith, glad you’re getting this project going. Will be exciting to see what you think of this machine.
It’s a little crude, but a good performer it was the only frontload washer. We really had here in the states for a long time we used to have some diehard customers it would always have a front loader and like these machines a lot. I have seen machines were the door boot is sort of puckered and wrinkled a bit like that. Not sure what causes that in theory it was not supposed to be like that but I don’t think it’ll hurt anything. Maybe some good hot washes will make it calm down a little bit , Anxiously awaiting to see how it works. John. |
