It all started when the overflow hose perished and cracked - the leak made me finally pay attention to the machine - Hoover Elite 930.
I repaired these machines in my late teens and I am retired now, so some of the details and methods proved to be in volatile mind memory. My thought process 'It won't hurt to change the top shaft seal while I am buying hoses' since it runs under water. See image with seal removed - some shaft corrosion just above the seal but shaft is clean at the seal location.
Some questions:
-Should I clean up tub mounting setup below the seal or am I better to let sleeping dogs lie with the condition it is in?
-How can i tell if water has entered the gearbox? I was hoping to observe the colour of the oil somehow but can't figure that one out. The top bearing seems OK so I am thinking the top seal might have done the job properly for 40+ years
-Does anyone have a repair manual or exploded parts view?
-For future reference does anyone sell parts other than usual hose, seal, belt, pump?
-Any comments from those with more recent repair experience would be appreciated
I am happy I stumbled across this site of some like-minded people so I will appreciate any helpful directions or thoughts to help me get another 40 years out of the beast.
