Can anyone tell me more about this washer? I know Maytag owned Goodman for a period of time, but the re-engineering looks like it was entirely done by Amana and not Maytag.

Amana-tags = Goodman bought Amana in 1997. Goodman sold Amana appliances division (not air conditioning*) to Maytag in 2002 ... which resulted in Amana-design laundry branded as Maytag. Maytag, of course, was sold to Whirlpool in 2006. Norge-tags = Norge/BorgWarner --> Fedders --> Magic Chef (1979) --> Maytag (1986) *Maytag-branded HVAC is currently produced by Nortek/Nordyne. I will re-read those! Complex history to get my mind around no doubt.
Did Amana continue to operate independently under Maytag just contracting appliances to Maytag or did Maytag reorganize Amana just copying their design? I love Speed Queen replications like Amanas, Maytags, GEs and the like. I wish Kenmore could have done the same. Basically Speed Queen's modern design improvements but with Kenmore features like a DA, Ultra-Clean, grip knobs, ect. If GE had switched to the Speed Queen design instead I wouldn't be anywhere near upset. The Speed Queen design is not at all bad, this I know, how much better it is than what became dominant. |
