Hello everyone!

I am looking for a 1950’s GE Wonder kitchen. I just bought my first house, and I would truly like to make it a dream home! I am looking for one of the Turquoise or the brownish colored ones.

So here is the big kicker question. I found a wall refrigerator and it is relatively close to me. It is currently not working, however I am sure I can fix it. The one I found is in that brownish color on the outside and the turquoise on the inside. I wanted some opinions from others on the forum on how they would feel about it being repainted? I would prefer to have the turquoise color, and I am almost certain that, that brown will not look right with everything else being turquoise. Almost all of my kitchen utensils are turquoise, I have a vintage turquoise bread box, the whole nine yards. I just think it would stick out like a sore thumb. And I know these fridges are not terribly easy to find. So unless someone on here have one of those up for grabs as well, I’m kinda inclined to repaint it. Thoughts? If I were to repaint it, depending on the condition of the wonder kitchen I would probably repaint everything all at the same time. That way we know the color will definitely match.

Were built from 1955 through 1960.

They were really a cool concept and could still be viable today, there’s no problem in repainting a refrigerator as it was only regular paint on the outside.

Also the idea of having the entire kitchen repainted at the same time is good because it’s unlikely you will find a wonder kitchen where the paint is that good after this many years.

It would be best to match the paint you’re going to use to the front of the oven which is a porcelain finish it would not get repainted.

Before you invest in that refrigerator, take a good look at the interior capacity. It is tiny and the freezer has to be defrosted. Collecting dripping defrost water that high up in the air is no fun and a bit of a mess. Even it you want to deal with the small refrigerator, you are going to need another refrigerator-freezer, preferably one with a capacity more attuned with today's grocery buying habits and a freezer that does not need defrosting.

Good point! However I already intended to have a second refrigerator. This was actually going to be my second one. I kinda figured it was going to be pretty small, I know a lot of those vintage ones are very small like you said because of the grocery buying of the day. But I am glad you made that point! It might help someone else out later who might be thinking about making it their one and only. The defrosting I knew about but I didn’t think about the fact that is it up on the wall making it harder to do. I’m dead set on getting it and at least trying it out. I haven’t had to defrost a Freezer in a long time, maybe I can come up with a creative way to make it less messy.
