Hello, this is my first post and I wanted to share a cosmetic repair with y'all

I've enjoyed reading about the better appliances from decades past.

I've had this Kenmore Heavy Duty model 110 washer since the late 1990's and it's been working reliably with no issues other than the label on the face plate disintegrated to the point where it was difficult to read.

Friends and relatives have gone through multiple front loader machines over the years (some of them with absolutely gorgeous candy apple red paint jobs), but my ugly little Kenmore keeps truckin along.

It finally had something go wrong recently (a leaky inlet valve) so after I received the part, I took it outside, installed the valve, cleaned it up inside and out and decided to finally do something about that nasty label.

I ended up scanning the faceplate, cleaning it up in photoshop and getting some laminated color prints made at Kinko's.

It ended up turning out really nice and I thought maybe if anyone else has this problem they could use my scans.

I created a small (20 images) imgur album with captions and scans of the faceplate (link below) but I think I'll upload a before/after and the scans here as well.

Thanks for all of the great info!
-Seth

Thanks for sharing and it turned out great. The washer and dryer pair you have there were simple and very dependable machines and Sears sold many of them. Congrats on keeping them going.

Very clever repair

This was a common problem on many brands of washing machines where they painted the markings onto a face plate.

Laundry pre-soak and stain removal products if sprayed on clothing on top the machine the spray would soften the paint and make the markings come off.

It’s really neat to see the way things like this can be restored a simple machine like this washer and dryer could be kept going for upwards of 40 years without major repairs probably.

Image Scans

I'd love to see more image scans of washer, dyrer, and dishwasher panels (especially vintage ones), wash tubs, agitators, and lid instructions.

Nice work on recreating the face plate detail. This may become a new norm for us, in attempting to restore machines by scanning and correcting/fixing printed detail.

Hi Seth and a Warm Welcome to AW , Wow what a fantastic job you have done re-creating the damaged fascia , It looks absolutely mint, like others have said it will be the way forward for future restorations with faded fascias & graphics etc . !!
