Hi All -

We moved house just over a month ago, and have been using the washing machine that came with the house since then - a Zanussi S218T. From searching, it seems to be at least 40 years old. It has been working well - doing 1 or even 2 loads a day for the last 5 weeks.
Not too bad on energy either - standard 1 hour wash taking about 1 kWh in energy saving mode (yes, it has an energy saving button!). Admittedly, this does not include heating the water, as it has both hot and cold water piped in.
Some great engineering from Zanussi.

Anyway, in the past few days, it has begun leaking between loads. That is, when switched off and empty, some water will gradually seep out from underneath. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the cause, or what I should look for ? Would be great if it's something minor that I can repair.

thanks for any help!

Take the top off and look for leaks

I would look first around the water valves, does the machine continue leaking until you turn the taps off?

Sometimes a hot water inlet valve will leak until it cools off again.

It could also be leaking from a number of other areas drain pump hoses underneath etc.

Yes - that's the one. Amazing that it's still going strong after 40+ years !

Mysteriously, it stopped leaking for a couple of days. All I did was take out and put back in the filter. However, it has now started again. Will try the same with the filter again and see what happens.

I've now ended up buying a new washing machine - so am giving away the Zanussi S218T.
