Could anyone help me locate a working transmission for the washer shown in the picture. I have the receipt where it was purchased in late 1959, so Im assuming a 1960 model? Any help is greatly appreciated. Wendy

A donor Maytag from the early 1980’s with the standard capacity tub will work. In 1966, Maytag introduced the larger deep tub models which use the same transmission BUT have a shorter stem compared to the 1965 and older Maytags with the small standard capacity tub which your Maytag uses.

"A donor Maytag from the early 1980’s with the standard capacity tub will work."

The lower stem is too short for the 1966+ standard capacity transmissions. The transmission has to be from 1956-1965.

What's wrong with the original transmission?

Forgot about that, Dan. Could have sworn someone mentioned awhile back that you could use a transmission from a standard capacity Maytag from the early 80’s but again has been awhile.

No worries, that bit of misinformation floated around this site for many years.

You can use the lower part of the original transmission and put the top part of a newer small tub machine on top of it.

A little off topic but I think I figured out what was wrong with my email and why I couldn’t reply back to the emails you sent to me since Apple will only let you respond so many times before it won’t let you anymore.

I did not send you any emails.

Just informing Dan what was going on with my email since it wouldn’t let me reply to the emails Dan sent to me a week ago or so.

I have a working trans from a 1964 A500 standard capacity washer but it will need oil service and new seals. I removed it from a working machine that had a rotted tub and burnt start winding in the motor. $100.00 plus shipping if interested

I've always considered putting the vintage cabinet around a newer Maytag inside. Might try that this winter.
