Would anybody please share the year of that machine in today's POD? Also, does any member have one? Thanks!

Service manual indicates the W262/W264/W266/W268 machines are 1957 models, however I do believe they were available in late '56 for purchase. Can't say I've ever seen this particular BOL model pop up here on AW, however the MOL W264 and TOL W266/W268 have surfaced.

The overall platform this machine was based on was the Dexter redesign of their initial Beam build from earlier in the decade, after the buyout from Philco in '54, with the ball point balance being a major part of the redesign. From the research I've been able to uncover I do believe the Philco automatic and the Dexter twins (W253 and W255/W265) were built in Fairfield, IA.

And, to add to the madness, with Philco also buying out Bendix from Avco in Nov of '56 for presumably the Power Surge platform, the Dexter redesign was only available for the '57 and '58 models, with some lower end model carry over into the '59 models. The Automagic/Power Surge based machines took over as the main platform for all Philco and Dexter domestic top load automatics from '59 through the 1960's.

Can't imagine Philco was able to realize a positive ROI on the 1956 Dexter/Beam redesign, but then again it can be argued that Philco wasn't making the most wise business decisions across multiple divisions (domestic appliances, television/electronics, etc.) during this period of time.

Ben

Thanks for the info, Ben! I was particularly interested in this model because it had a regular aluminum agitator.
