Hi folks

I've just bought a house that has a washer I thought somewhat curious. It's marked English Electric 1545w.
I hadn't seen a washing machine this old so I made a note of it, and then found you lot after an image search.

I'll be replacing it with a modern machine once I move in, but I figured it might be interest to some folks on this forurm - so I joined

I believe the machine works, but I haven't tested it yet. Hung on the wall behind it appear to be some rubber belts. Looks like the previous owner kept it pretty well maintained. It's certainly looking good for its age.

Bad photo attached

Let me know your thoughts and if you know anyone who'd want to come get it

Edinburgh UK.

Luke

I think that is possibly a Comet Electrical Store exclusive model. Probably made by Hotpoint-Creda in the late Eighties or early Nineties.

Hi Luke. Would be keen to see some more pictures of this, how much are you hoping to get for it?

I'll post some more photos and probably do a test in a day or two. I'm not aware of fair market value for such an item - and to me personally doesn't hold much value, hence "free"

I got some photos today.

Still haven't had the chance to test it.

Looks great

Looks great, you are a fair treck from me. But very tempting as I know the whereabouts of the matching dryer. When do you need it gone for?

I've got space at the moment as we're not fully occupying the basement until the renovation is done (the washing machine looks to be the newest thing in this house). We're taking delivery of a shiny new ebac 9kg hot fill machine next week, so young and old can get to know each other for a few months...

If you're serious about adopting it, feel free to email me on the address in my profile when you've worked out when you can do this, and I can arrange to be at home that day to help you load up.

that’s a lovely machine there which is obviously a rebranded Hotpoint sold through Comet/Woolworths stores around 1985/86, I believe there were 2 washing machines (2 button 800 spin and 4 button 1000 spin), 2 tumble dryers (a compact and a full-sized model) and a twin tub as well

I hope it still works alright, this is surely a collector’s item as they’re so rare today :)

It works...

I did a load of pretty soiled washing today. Came out spotless; it works!
The spin cycle is no joke. After balancing the drum it's straight to full power with no messing around. Sounds like a turbine spinning up - a bit like the ol' "valenta scream" from the Intercity 125.
