I never liked folks hooking the aluminum gooseneck over the control panel giving a nice one some permanent scratches or throwing the fill hoses in a perfect porcelain wash basket chipping the porcelain in multiple places.

my dream washer

My dream washer would be a 2-speed GE filter-flo with ramped activator and minibasket.

Norge 20lb washer or.........

Friend had this washer when I was in my early twenties...it was a 20lb. Norge machine. Whenever she was doing laundry in the house you new the washer was running because of the sounds it made. The machine was a true workhorse. From the chugging of the motor while it was agitating (burpilator equipped of course) to the powerful pump out of the water when it drained into the stationery tub to the banging of the brake when it engaged after spinning. I also liked the fact the washer had a backwards control panel (timer on the left side of the console, infinite water level, temp control, and 4 combo. spd. control)
If I can't have the Norge than I'll take a loaded Whirlpool set with spd. control buttons, 5 temp. selection, and infinite water level. And let me get the winged surgilator for those large loads. I'll take it's dryer mate. I've always liked Whirlpool or Kenmore dryers.

I will have my dream set up and running by sometime later in December or possibly next year, a Maytag A806 paired up with a customized Maytag HOH dryer :)

There are three in particular. 1958 Kenmore tineline, a 1956 Hotpoint and a 1958 GE filter-flo 2 cycle with the pink diaL.

My dream retro washer and dryer set will always be a Frigidaire 1-18 washer and a matching Frigidaire Wide-Mouth dryer. I remember all the ads about how they re-invented those two. Second would be a Maytag set, similar to my DW 806 and DD 806 set. I would have to keep a broom handle handy to push items like jeans and sheets under the water. I liked the ability to set the washer for a gentle wash and a fast spin.

Any old Brandt or Vedette from the 70's or 80's or a young vintage, a 2001 Arthur-Martin Electrolux AW3085T (my grandma had this one back then).

GE Filter-Flo from 1957-1959

Of several possibilities, I'll say the 1957-59 GE Filter-flo. (My Mom had a 1960.) I like the copper patina filter pan and the pink (1957-58) or seafoam (1959) agitator cap and recirc flume.

The 1960 had the black flume and the green plastic filter pan. Probably an improvement, but not as interesting to me.
