This was the design Tappen used on their first smooth top ranges. It fell out of favor, pretty quickly, because of all the extra cracks and crevices to clean
The advantage was if you broke or stained one section of the cooktop, you could just replace it in sections. The first smooth top range ever sold in the US was a corning, cooktop or freestanding range. It had a divided cooktop were the left and right side were each one section it allowed for again independent replacement, if one side got damaged. But again people didn’t like the extra little cracks and crevices so everybody very quickly went to a one piece top. The signature range is a double continuous cleaning oven model looks like the range is in pretty good shape overall. But they might wait a while to get $600 for it. John. |

Looks like a gold KitchenAid? dishwasher is still there.
Range looks lightly used, usually the glass plates are discolored and/or stained. I had a friend in high school that had a single oven Tappan slide-in version with this same cooktop. They hated that range, slow and impossible to keep clean. When Soft-Scrub with bleach was introduced, it made cleaning easier but by then, there were so many scratches on the glass sections, it did little good. |
