Hello all,
Just wanted to give a quick update on my Whirlpool direct drive washer that was scheduled to be repaired over Christmas. There was a slight delay because of weather, but my bro-in-law did eventually make it here and we got the repairs done. The machine now has a rebuilt gearcase and neutral drains as it should, along with a new 6-pad clutch, spin tube seal, and heavy duty coupler. We also swapped out the surgilator agitator for a dual-action version, but I did keep the surgilator as there's nothing wrong with it, just wanted something different. I might switch back and forth sometimes as others on here do as I like each agitator style for different reasons. Everything else in the machine looked okay. No deterioration or leaks anywhere, suspension, bearings, etc all checked out fine but he said we can visit that on down the road if needed. The machine operates so much better now. Agitation is a bit quieter, probably because the trans isn't worn, neutral drain seems to keep out-of-balance situations in check -- didn't think one had anything to do with the other, but I notice it has a much smoother spin now that it neutral drains, could just be a coincidence though. Also yay for no more slow ramp-up to spin, clothes seem quite a bit less wet going into the dryer and my dry times are much less. Come to think of it, that could have been part of my dryer issues of a few months ago. I am very happy and look forward to a long time with this washer. I also learned a valuable lesson -- refurbished appliance doesn't always mean it's completely ready for long-term service. Hope everyone else has had a great start to their year! Ryne |
