A paper towel went through my GE Filter Flo pump. At first I thought it was the transmission having trouble with the reeling sound it was making during the spin cycle but later it started to spit the towel into the filter pan and out the drain hose. After that it went back to normal operation. Can something like this damage the pump or is the pump tough enough to slough it off? It seems that after it got rid of the towel that it was ok. Any thoughts. Thanks.

Doubt it caused any problems. That's what's great about old school well built mechanical parts. Certainly would not be the case with todays flimsy electric drain pumps.

I am curious how a paper towel got sucked into the pump. Did make its way over the inner tub into the outer?

I would say since it’s a paper towel and it disintegrates in water it’ll be fine without any disassembly.

gsd-dan, I think it broke apart and went through the drain holes. I never overlode the washer to the point that anything can go over the top of the inner tub. I also watch every load as the washer washes them.

In my last post I meant overload ... not overlode.

If that's the case, I wouldn't worry at all.

When Norge came out with the burp up lint filter in 1959 or so, I remember a salesman at Rich's demonstrating the feature to two women by pulling a couple of facial tissues out of the pop up box and throwing them into the agitating washer. Within a few seconds, the shredded pieces of the tissues came burping up into the filter.

With GE's turbine-style pump, a dissolving paper towel should not cause trouble.

That pump is driven directly by the motor, you will be fine.
