A friend is refurbing a 1967 Whirlpool belt-drive LRA-6700 and needs a snubber spring.  P/N 93434.  Photo of the snubber and broken spring below.  It has a small loop that fits into the top of the snubber.

Does anyone have an available older-style good spring?

This subs to Whirlpool kit number 350906 unless you are wanting to stick with the original style spring.

Substituting/finding the newer style is a choice but he is wanting to use an original-style spring if possible.  He's son of the WP dealer where I worked summers back in the day.

I figured that was probably the case. I believe all of the ones I’ve ever had of that style looked just like the one you pictured. Rusted out.

He had the machine stashed in his barn.  I don't recall it at the shop when he had an estate sale several years ago after his mother died.  It's not the model she used there.

The business shut down after his dad died in 1986.  The parts inventory was sold for cents-on-the-dollar to a servicer in another city.  He saved a few items (NIB baseplate!) and tools (bearing setter and puller!).  I would have nabbed some but that was years before collecting was a thing.  I did get a couple WP lighted signs, two NIB *old* pumps (1950s).  Three Zenith-logo juice glasses, a set of eight RCA-logo juice glasses, and two Windmaker fans.

It’s always sad to see a mom and pop dealer go. I didn’t find out that our local whirlpool dealer had passed away until about a year later. He had some neat stuff in his shop as well. That’s pretty cool to have a NOS baseplate. I’m having two rebuilt with a stainless center post right now. Seems like here lately all of the rebuilds I’m working on have rotten center posts to the point of being unusable.

Yes, that's the newer style of spring with a larger loop to fit around the top of the newer snubber revision.

The older spring he's seeking to maintain the original design has a smaller loop that fits into the older snubber (which he has, shown in the photo).  The stud in the top of that snubber fits into the spring loop.

Hi Glenn, sorry I’ve been so busy since I got back to Maryland.

I have this one that’s in pretty good condition has a little bit of rust on it but it’s still structurally strong. If you send me an address you can private message it I will mail it out to you tomorrow.

John

Ted sent a couple pics of the refurbed machine.  The two-position water level switch was bad, he substituted a variable switch that he had on-hand.  Snubber spring from John.  Three other small but crucial items I luckily found for him.  A few leaks patched on the outer tub.  New old-stock baseplate he had (with new bearings).  Transmission serviced.  I believe he had a new spin tube and clutch.  The original pump has clips for service disassembly, exhibited a slight leak but has settled down after a few runs.

Great machine! Is it going to be used as a daily driver? Should be good for many years.

Yes, it'll be the daily driver as I understand.  He has a newer belt-drive, an LA7800-something IIRC that was the daily driver until the spin bearings began exhibiting failure, at which point he decided to refurb the '67 machine.  He also has a direct-drive but I don't know the vintage and it may be in storage, not much used.  He refers to it as a Design 2000 but I'm not sure if it's labeled as such or if that's a reference to it being direct-drive.
