Starting in (again) on fixing a Beaumark washer. It was manufactured in December 1998 and it is a rebranded GE washer. Last time I tried to fix this I couldn't get the agitator off due to really awful advice from a free example on a pay for expert advice website. They said twist the agitator off which is so wrong. Using ratchet straps and a 2x4 I got the agitator off.

The washer doesn't agitate. It spins nice and fast. It also pumps water without any problems. It doesn't agitate when it should, but every few minutes during the wash cycle it will spin a bit. Popping the front off the washer reveals oil all over the bottom of the washer. No oil on the belt. I don't hear any grinding noises at any time. The lack of awful sounds is a bit troubling because I would have thought a transmission gear or bearing issue would make some noise.

I can't work on it again for a couple days, but here is my current plan:

I got the agitator coupling off (WH49X10042) and thought it looked okay, but I now realize that I need to look deeper into the splines to see if they are worn off.

I will look to see if the belt is turning during the wash cycle. I didn't realize how the transmission works in this machine and that the motor turns in opposite directions during spin and wash cycles.

I will cut the hub nut off with a dremel if I can't get it off otherwise. I have already soaked it in WD40 and pounded on it with no luck. It is sitting in WD40 again until I give it some more short handled sledge-love.

Once I get the transmission off I can see if there are any issues within. Since it is considered a non-serviceable item if there are any issues with gears etc this will be the end of the line because there will be no replacement parts. I could replace bearings and seals but that isn't going to make it agitate.

Does this seem to be a reasonable approach or is the writing already on the wall and it is pointless to try to fix this? A used transmission seems to cost $200 plus which isn't worth it for a part that will likely fail soon.

I would not attempt to fix the Beaumark. There are better used machines out there and you can probably pick one up in decent working condition and cheaper than the cost and mental anguish of trying to fix the beaumark.
