Hi, Will, that’s the one that set my best friend David’s house on fire back about 1968, cause them to get it entirely new kitchen with a KitchenAid dishwasher this time.

Our neighbors across the street (that were responsible for us ending up buying the house across the street from them) had the buillt-in verson (pictured) in seafoam green (along with the other matyching appliancs). There was one other house on the street that I knew had the same Westinghouse kitchen (except in yellow). The dishwasher lasted until like 1968 or 1969 and was replaced with a KDS16.

For all of its modern looks, these machines did not have an electrically or mechanically operated detergent dispenser. It filled and immediately went into the only wash. To guarantee the 140F wash the heating element came on and there was a thermal hold on the timer motor so that it would not advance until the water was heated to 140F. Westinghouse built in dishwashers had this feature going back to the early 50s. While it was good for getting a hot wash, it took a long time to heat the water. While that was not an inconvenience with a builtin, having the dishwasher parked in front of the sink for up to an hour, just for the wash might be inconvenient. I am sure few, if any, owners would have thought to start the machine on the rinses to warm up the machine before starting again at the beginning of wash which is a remarkably efficient way of warming up the machine ahead of the wash. I have used it with my KD2P.

Oh I'm aware they had their issues. I just love the styling. It wouldn't be a daily driver.

I wonder what caused the fire?

I've got a 60 range and 59 refrigerator (the latter is missing a couple of pieces if anyone has a parts fridge). I'd just like a full set.
