Hi all,

I have a Kenmore Ultraclean dishwasher model 665.15777990 that I've managed to fix. However it's stuck in some odd diagnostics / debug mode where choosing a cycle results in most of the LEDs lighting up, I think telling me what individual stages will be run.

Any idea how to exit this mode? Actual front panel below.

To verify my repairs, I put it into the diagnostics mode outlined in the technican's manual under the kickplate, which is a 1-2,1-2 sequence for this model Water-Heat,No-Heat-Dry , Water-Heat,No-Heat-Dry ; 2 seconds later it kicks off a full cycle, much time later the diagnostics complete, green light comes on the at the end, so good news is it's working again.

However, when I try to use it normally (i.e. "Normal Wash") way more than the 'Normal Wash' LED turns on, and when I hit start, it runs the selected cycle to completion. Trying other modes, many different LEDs light up, leading me to think the dishwasher is displaying what steps it will run for a given mode (i.e. Quick washer has fewer stages than Normal Wash).

No matter what I've tried (holding down canel, start, cancel+start, 1-2-3 key sequences, turning power off for 24 hrs, even pulling the main PCB and discharging the four capacitors) it still ends up in the "extended" display mode. Re-trying the 1,2 , 1,2 sequence just lights up ALL LEDs and restarts the extended diagnostics mode.

Any suggestions here?

I can take a picture of the front panel LED state for a given mode if that's helpful as well.

Probably have a bad touch panel

Just hope it keeps working. The diagnostic cycle will clear itself if that was the problem.

Keep your eyes out for a new touch panel.

Looks like there's damage to the touch panel on the left side. If the crack there is recent, it may be your problem.

Did a search and the touch panel is WP3384340. Looks like they discontinued the white panel early on and only had the black one available until it became NLA as well. There are some refurbished panels out there if you want to take a gamble. The control faces are black but it'll get your machine running until a white faced panel becomes available.

Whirlpool, dishwasher control panel

There’s no such thing as a refurbished panel. There may be some good used ones out there

But there’s no way to repair these panels in a consistent and predictable manner.

I would just skip the new black one.

A reviewer states..

"When our 25 yr old dish washer quit working , we looked at new washers. The new ones seem much lighter & flimsier than our old one. My wife found the control panel on Dishwasher Repair Parts.com.
The part looked brand new and was very easy to install. Now we get to keep our older washer and keep about $400 in our pocket!! Thanks"

They Can Call It What They Want

But it is just a used cleaned and tested panel, it might still be a good bet if you can not find a NEW one.

A common electrical problem may have been fixed on an otherwise good physical panel.

Membrane touch panels

Hi Dan, I have never seen any way to fix these but who knows I guess anything is possible.

None of the board rebuilders we use will touch these

John.
