This popped up on my YouTube feed this morning.
This film short is from 1936 or 1937 and features a very young Art Carney appearing with the Horace Heidt orchestra who must have been sponsored by Stewart Warner Refrigerators - never heard of that brand before. CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK |

Whilst many people associate Art Carney with Jackie Gleason, his work extended far beyond that. Here is a spoof of Whats My Line? from 1959 which is remarkably like the original

But just to show that there was no bad feelings, Carney appeared on Whats My Line 2 days later. Arlene is missing this week, her place being taken by a young Joan Collins. The segment is 17 minutes into the show - real class TV and performers

I believe Stewart-Warner sold off its fridge operation to Admiral after WWII. Some may remember the Admiral Dual-Temp as the first combination refrigerator-freezer on the market, but Stewart-Warner had introduced it originally.

Thanks for sharing that, Alistair! It is so much fun seeing an 18 year old Art Carney. He is often underated as an actor. He had a broad range and could do drama as well as comedy. One of my favorite roles for Art Carney is when he played Santa in the delightful film, "The Night They Saved Christmas," with June Lockhart playing Mrs. Claus.

Billboard (1952) advertising Stewart-Warner TVs, with my father's store listed. This is in Springfield, Mass., and appears to be next to railroad crossing on Main St.
