I've now fished two hunks of metal out of the pump of a Hotpoint washer VBSR3100. Anyone know what they might have broken from? Easily replaceable? Or just let it go until more breaks off.
It's an OK machine, nothing special, about 18 years old. So I'm not interested in putting much time or effort into it. Maybe time to send it to the curb. Thanks

the end is near...

those are pieces of a crumbling basket hub-something known to happen with these washers. Could be fixed if (new or used) parts can be obtained, but will be a bit of bother to fix.

new GE/Hotpoint washers

I've heard these machines are garbage after the filter-flos.

My Hotpoint did the same after 20-some years. I think it's soon going to quit on you in the middle of load. Even if it does last a few more loads, Pieces of "shrapnel" may not be good on delicates.

Just don't be like me and think you can go buy another cheap washer that will last for another 20 years. Even (especially?) Whirlpool products, Maytag, Amana, etc. aren't likely to last anywhere near that long. Your old cheap Hotpoint is far closer to the quality of a Speed Queen than pretty much any other washer built today, all the wonderful plastic parts, lightweight, and imagined energy savings not withstanding.
