I picked this up at a yard sale recently. When washing, the impeller will mostly only rotate counter-clockwise. You can hear the motor as if it's trying to alternate both directions. If I turn the tub manually, it will work properly for a short time but then start only one direction again. I found this spring in the bottom of the cabinet but I don't see an obvious place to put it nor do I even know if this spring belongs on the machine. Anyone with one of these have any insight?

Loose Spring

Is probably from a clothes pin.

I just found on the Magic Chef site that it's called a twist spring so it must go somewhere under here. It's too big to be from a clothespin.

Search the model for parts diagrams.

Check the lid hinge.

I tried out an impeller washer and both of the lids were spring loaded with something this size/type. Why? do not know. The lids worked fine when I removed the hinges.

Found a parts diagram and I think it is indeed from the lid.
