My hubby and I just finished watching a great new TV 4 part mini-series - called "In Our Blood."
It is the story of the Australian response to the AIDS epidemic - from first reports from the US, to its arrival here, to government, medical and policy responses. It's not really a documentary, it's a story based in real history.
The history represented in the show is accurate; the key people and their actions / responses are real, though names are changed; the fine details of the personal storylines are fictionalized. We who lived through the times can recognize the characters and remember who the real people are that the characters are based on.
It's an interesting program - a bit odd in that it has narrators who appear in the show as minor characters (waiters in a restaurant for example) but stop to talk to the viewer - the idea is to give background. Occasionally they also sing pop songs of the period - the music is great, it's my era. So it's a bit musical, too.
We loved it, and were moved by it.
I highly recommend the show to you if you think it sounds of interest.
The program was made by the ABC, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, our National broadcaster, and shown on ABC-TV.
It is probably geo-blocked outside Australia, but I'm sure you clever folks know a way to work around that.
