Starting a thread for those inclined to show some love for laundromats they like past or current.

We don't have these huge supermarket sized laundromats locally, they look like fun. Lots of room to spread out so everyone isn't on top of each other.

To me the machines are just too big for what loads I do.The pay system appears to be too fiddly and complicated to use.I used a laundramat here that you could use coins, credit cards and debit cards. They have the larger FL machines as the place shown uses and SQ TL machines-I used those and one large dryer.

laundromat

I'd rather go to a laundromat, instead of washing clothes on my dorm. This would be perfect for the loads I do.

Those were the days . . .

Back then, of course, we also dressed up to eat out, shop at Macy's and take an airline flight.

Would have to research further but IIRC some properties where self-serve dry cleaning once was offered have contaminated soil/ground water.

Properties that currently or once had dry cleaning business located upon often also have issues with soil and or ground water contamination.

It all has to do with largely the most common chemical used for dry cleaning; tetrachloroethylene (PERC).

Launderettes are vanishing in UK as well. Combination of high rents and more homes having washers has done it to them.

London wash house. Long since pulled down and luxury flats built on property.

Nottingham wash house. Also pulled down

Choices

Given a choice of laundromat/laundry or wash house, then definitely wash house.

Quite glad there is NOT a wash house near me as I would spend far too much time there properly washing.

I would end up like the woman in the video saying "I've got an automatic washer, an automatic dryer.....my washing is still better over here".

Love that woman.
