How do I remove the impeller on my dishwasher? |

Rebuilding a D & M dishwasher pump. 
These are a pain in the neck, but possible to repair. You need to take a propane, torch and heat the impeller until it comes loose, you will not be able to reuse the impeller. You’ll need a new seal and impeller kit to fix this, hopefully the motor shaft is not too rusted or you may have to replace the motor.
If you don’t wanna take it apart any further, try getting some oil on the motor shaft with the pump upside down for a while that will lubricate the seal and you put it back together and it may work normally. A squeaky seal should just be ignored unless you want a big repair . John. | ||

Thanks john! Hopefully my monkeying around with it has not damaged the seal. I think I will spray it with some silicone lube and just put it back together. By chance do you have a part number for the impeller and seal in case I have to replace them? | ||

Yes, it is better to rebuild it completely, if the motor shaft is rusty at all, turn the motor on and take a file and smooth it out nicely. Otherwise, the impeller will stick on the shaft and will cause the seal not have the right tension and it will leak
Also run the motor without the pump assembled on it and see how it sounds. If there’s any bearing play at all you’re better off replacing the motor these machines had terrible motors they only had sleeve bearings. The seal almost never runs against the motor shaft on a dishwasher. In fact, I’ve never seen one that does, actually I take that back. Whirlpool tried to use a lip type seal in 1970 and 71. The motor had a stainless steel shaft, but it still was not successful design and they quickly changed it back to a spring loaded carbon and ceramic seal like you have. John. | ||
