So then 1957 saw the introduction of the recirculating lint filter. Whirlpool offered a lint filter that fit over the barrel of the agitator so that earlier automatics and wringer washers could have lint filtering, too. John found one MIB decades ago.

The agitator-filter was mentioned/pictured in the user guide for our 1962 machine which itself had a recirculating brush filter.

1956 Whirlpool

Maybe one of Whirlpool's most beautiful models. There were quite a few of these around Oak Park, Michigan. Folks purchased their new three-bedroom brick ranch homes in 1955 or 1956 when these were current models. Our next-door neighbor had one of these machines. I remember playing down the basement with my friend and the washer would buzz (loud) twice before shutting off.

How many years did Whirlpool have the lock buttons? I pushed the button once to look inside the washer.

General Electric also gave their "Filter-Flow" washers two speeds in 1957.
