Tried resetting the control board by unplugging for 15 min. No luck. Thought I'd take the rotor and stator off to examine it for issues...well, the stator had a burnt winding. Interesting enough, the bottom quarter of the stator core was noticeably rusty, and the winding that blew looked like it was subject to moisture-induced corrosion due to the powdery white substance on the affected winding.
Immediately suspected the bearing or seal leaking but the bearing races didnt have a speck of rust, and there wasn't any evidence of leakage on the rear of the outer tub. It looked like water shorted it out (I could be wrong, perhaps the winding was weak) but other than the rust on the bottom 1/4 of the curcumference of the stator core and the appearance of that specific winding, I couldn't find any additional evidence of leaks.
The weird thing was that I never smelled any burning nor heard any weird sounds. Also, it completed the last cycle ran without issue. The LE error popped up at the very beginning of the subsequent cycle.
The washer is seven years old now. I contemplated buying a SQ FF7 like I've wanted but due to the ease of repair and the low cost of a stator ($70) vs spending $2300 + tax on a new washer over a simple repair, I figured I may get a few more years out this.
Here's hoping that I can deal without laundry for four to five days while I wait for the stator to arrive.
