Hi everyone

I thought it would be a nice idea to do a thread on particular makes. Any pics, recent or old, information and videos you have on Hotpoint would be great. I am of course British, but info on Hotpoint worldwide would be great.

Please see link below of what wikipedia says.

Take care

Rob

The Hottie in 1982. In 79-80 (correct me if I'm wrong) Hotpoint dropped the Liberator name and indeed the purple glass door.

Hotpoint by the late 80s. Hotpoint by this time came in 3 colours, Almond (as shown), Brown and white and Polar white (all white).

Nonnina cara...:-)

Oh dear! You cannot imagine hom much do those pink Hotpoint pushbuttons seem to my Grandma's first 1968 FL washing machine.

She was quite old when she could had her fisrt washing machine, just soon as she had retired working. The salesman picked it up to her house and hooked up in a sort of closet near the kitchen(there weren't laundries at that time!)

Very amazing splashy action throuhg out the big circular chromated windowed lid and a very big loudly clocking control knob... my Grandma's was as Sangiorgio... but the look was exaclty as the Hotpoint at the page top!

Great pics! THANKS

Diomede

The infamous rocker switch hotpoint! I saw many of these as a child. I'm sure everyone can remember the fear struck in your heart when a hotpoint jumps out about 3feet on spin lol. I also gave myself the fright of my life wen i turned the dial to the inbetween the spin portion of the dial whilst it was full of water...pull the dial out then WHOOOOOOSH 1000rpms instantly lol i frightened myself to death lol.

Now heres a machine i've always wanted. A Microprofile Aquarius Ultima. back in the day when ultimas were Aquarius Ultimas. I always liked that range name. Complete flexability variable rinses, temperature, spins, Profile wash option. Delay. it had everything. I will track one of these down shortly.

Heres my childhood machine a electronic 1000 plus 9534. I loved this machine to death. It survived one bearing changed and was scraped at 12years old because of bearing failure again. to its testiment, it did wash everyday for a family of 6. My fathers a builder, my brothers were into mechanics, i was a kid who used to mess about on the park and get grass stains on my knees. So it really was a great machine.

i've made me way through 6 hotpoints in my time. heres the most recent of those from back in 2000 i had a Ultima WMA60 which died of those bad bearings that made them replace just about every model that had them. We were given the ultima extra replacement which was pretty much the same except the powerstream tumbled anticlockwise which tricked me into thinkin that it also span that way. not the case tho

He said he couldn't dicuss delivery until the end of the auction. so i won it only to be told it was be a month! so i canceled my payment n bought something else.

Hotpoint in the UK vs. USA?

volvoguy87's profile picture
Out of curiosity, how is/was UK Hotpoint related to, or different from, American Hotpoint? I know that in the U.S. Hotpoint was a low-end brand made by General Electric, but this does not seem to be the case with Hotpoint from the UK.

Curious,
Dave

Hotpoint were the best volvoguy, comparable to Miele in their day, and they were the UKs no1 washer brand until around 2004 or so. Cheap to repair too, its no wonder that more vintage Hotpoint machines are around compared to Hoover which were slightly poorer built where it matters. Nick

Not wishing to spark controversy here, but I've always thought that the proper (i.e. square door and New Wave style) Hoovers were miles better than Hotpoint's... the A3110 we had was more reliable & better at washing than it's succeeding Creda 17029 and Hotpoint WM64 washers (bear in mind that's my mum's and nana's (who had the A3060) opinions, at that time I was too young to care about results and was only interested in watching LOL). Hoover machines were quieter, gentler, and better at washing, rinsing and spinning IMO, and from what I've seen of Darren's Logic recenty it confirms that. In terms of reliability, from what mum told me our Hoover broke down twice during 15 or 16 years, whereas I remember the Creda and Hotpoints breaking down constantly (they ate brushes like mad). However despite that, the old Hotpoint's are still great machines and you can't beat the growling motor noise, nor those dramatic spin cycles! I think Hotpoint would beat Hoover anyday in the highjump competition :-).

BTW - my great grandma had that Hotpoint with the chrome door and rocker switches - always loved that machine. We always used to see her on a Saturday, and she often had the Hotpoint growling away doing her weekly white wash with Radion :-). It went to my auntie's as a temporary machine shortly after that for about 5 or 6 months, until it was replaced by a WM74 (which was further replaced with an LG Intellowasher).

FWIW, Hotpoint was a GEC company until it was sold off to Merloni Electrodomescitti, now known as the Indesit Company - so Hotpoint UK was related to the US Hotpoint until 2 years ago.

Take care all, and merry Christmas!

Jon

Rob, the first lot of WMA's were still hotpoints when they were introduced in 2000.

One of which i had.It Still sounded the same performed very similar. Just under a different look and drum! Also along with a 20minute spin cycle! Crikey! I remember thinking "Spin at 20minutes?! Is it faulty?!" lol. Apparently not though.

It went through several stages of spinning and tumbling and gradually increasing speed. Sounds like i'm talking about a bosch but no it was a hotpoint! I remember my favourite part was when it spun at 1200for about 5-10minutes and then stopped and went up to 1400 & 1600rpm!

I did like the machine for its flexability. I mentioned this to jon the otherweek. They adapted the "Rinsehold" feature, Yes it would sit in the water but every few minutes it would do a few slow tumbles. to keep everythin nice and wet and it worked a treat. I used to leave it doin that allday until i got home!

Heres a pic of the same model i had. Except mine was white, i would've liked a Graphite one! d'oh! :D

Darren

The 1000rpm version 2 the previous 1200 i just posted. My best friend had the same model. A little less yellowed as it was in a garage. It was a 1000rpm the same as my 9534 but me and my buddy used to argue who's was faster! bless him for taking an interest for my benefit:D

a close up of a spin slider:) on a 9544. These models had a different layout on the dial to my 9534, they had the 95degree "special finishes" programme, or should i say 90 as they were the low energy models! The spin portion on the dial was longer too.

A 9544 with the lid off. Apprentice repairman age 4 (myself). used 2 see this fairly often when our hotpoint was unwell.

I would be tought how things work by our friendly repairman from an early age. i remembered at the age of 5 or 6 how to change things n what things were. I used to diagnose faults to my mother and it was funny because the repairman would come and i'd be right:D

Unfortunately once i got to working age i asked him if he'd take me on as an apprentice but he said as much as he'd love to and eventually pass it onto me, it was to late in the day as he was gettin on!

The mid ninties Aquarius Ultima version of the classic spin slider model. My friend had one of these. I remember before i told him about my hobby. They're was a mountain of washin and i said to him. "Something up with your washer?" To which he replied "Yea! We daren't turn it on!" "Why's that?" i said, "Because it Jumps around like crazy on spin!" I smirked and thought to myself "Good ol' hotpoint:D!" Once i told him about my hobby i later explained why that was to his mum n they carried on using it!

Hi Chris

I'm getting that exact model. I preferred it to the higher class models because it had the wash intensity button, it was cheaper (I already have a Miele) and I think very fast spins can damage both clothes and the machine.

I will let you know how I get on and if my pump is very noisy too.

Hi Hotpoint WF220 I will let you know about the distribution too.

OK Rob, look forward to hearing from you....

the pump really is the only thing that lets it down

I went for the 1200 spin model because the price of the 1400 & 1600 spin models begins to enter low end Miele models

Just a quick report

robm's profile picture
Well the Aqualtis arrived safe and sound. Got it from a local company on Kelkoo for £281 + free delivery which isn't bad.

I will do a full review on the deluxe site. One thing was my pump wasn't too bad on sound. Chris if yours is very noisy you may want to get this checked out. Mine was no noisier than the Miele. The distribution is better than my other Hottie but still faffs a little bit.

I have done a few loads and am quite impressed, it is sooo quiet! It's early days but so far I would recommend it, depending on what you want.

Rob
