Some time ago,I noticed something. I looked at Frigidaire and GE top loaders(and their dryer counterparts)and also compared their exploded parts views. To me,they mechanically look almost the same(except for the positioning and type of water inlet valve). I did hear a while back that Frigidaire outsourced thir dryers from GE, and a couple of their low-end front load pairs were the same, but the top load washers? If that's the case, that's REAL junk.

Other way around (I think)...

I think GE sourced some of their dryers from Frigidaire and that's why the insides look alike, but I've never heard that about the washers.

I'm sure someone will quickly enlighten us.

To my knowledge, GE outsources some of their dryers and front-load washers from Frigidaire. Maybe some compact stack units. But each company manufacters their own agitator washers. There is really not much individuality in any of today's American-made agitator washers.

I had a mid-80's WCI gas dryer, and a '78 GE electric dryer. The dimensions were identical, as well as the lint filter. Interchangeable. The WCI design carried over to the Kenmore/Frigidaire line of "Frigmore" dryers, and they had the same weakenesses: the gas dryers would get way too hot on the high setting (medium was ok), and the blowers were rather anemic, letting lint build up in long dryer vent runs. I know this because when I replaced the GE electric dryer with the WCI gas dryer, without checking the vent, the WCI gas dryer started taking a very long time to dry, and the cabinet would get rather warm. Much longer and warmer than when I had the WCI in another house with a much shorter and clear run. When I replaced the WCI with a Maytag dryer, the first thing the Maytag did was blow a big lint clot out the vent... After I got through hitting my forehead with my hand, I started inspecting the vent run every few years. But the Maytag blows so strong there's usually not much at all to clean out.

I wish Frigidaire WOULD get their dryers from GE. I'd love to have a 7 cu. ft. dryer drum instead of the puny, scorch-inducing 5.8 Frigidaire currently has. To be fair, the only time I get a scorch issue is when I've loaded the front-loader very full and don't split it into 2 dryer loads---bath towels, for instance.

Still, it pisses me off that Frigidaire increases the size of the washer tub but not the dryer drum. The damn thing is too small to comfortably accommodate a full load from my 3.0 cu. ft. washer. Can't imagine that people are now stuffing a BobLoad® from their new 3.5 cu. ft. Affinity washers into them.

Frigilux. So glad you mentioned it. I burned a comforter (duvet) in there having rotated it every 15 to 20 mins. I thought I was losing my touch!
