Hey all,

I'm reducing my collection out of necessity, but that didn't stop me from rescuing this 1972 Lady Kenmore. $50. I'll add it to Marketplace in a few days.

If no one takes her within a few weeks I'll part it out. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks.

Should it have a PentaSwirl?  Or is it from the Summer 1975 era when at least one Big Book version doesn't state which agitator for the LK?  There aren't many model choices and the next-down from the LK says PentaVane.

It’s a 1974 model that was built through 1975. It would’ve came with a white penta swirl with a gold emblem on top.

Thought the piano key Lady K's all had VARI-FLEX agitators with the adjustable/retractable fins on the base plate.

This should be an 18lb/"large capacity" LK ... I don't think VariFlex was used on 18lb machines.

The standard capacity piano key models debuted in 1966 and had the roto flex agitator. It was replaced with the vari flex around 1968. There were some lower end piano key models that had the super roto swirl and this agitator was the replacement for the previous two. The last standard capacity piano key lady kenmore was a 1972 model and was sold into 1974 with a vari flex agitator. The lady kenmore piano key became large capacity in 1974 with a white Penta swirl and remained through 1975 when replaced by the new black panel models for 1976 with the new dual action agitator.

Thanks, Melvin. You answered all the additional questions I had. The Vari-flex is one of my favorite agitators. When the blades are opened to full "HI" the water drama is as intense as it gets for beloved turnover. My second favorite is the Roto-flex, the Octopus. What are yours? Say hello to Gordon for me.

Just talked to Gordon a couple of days ago. I like the vari and roto flex too. I’m also a big fan of the Penta vane and the double duty super surgilator.

^^That's the (800) model one of my aunts had in white and with a RotoSwirl.  I remember it initially paired with a late 1950s or early 1960s alphabet gas dryer, then an early 1970s WP electric dryer when they moved back to our hometown and built an all-electric house.  The timer broke in that the shaft would pull out and get off-index.  She called me a few times to align it.

Replaced with a late 1980s WP pair that she had until she died in early 2022 (the washer top had rusted a lot).

I think this one was built in 1968 if I remember correctly. Hers must’ve been very early seventies to have the super roto swirl.

Too bad it didn't have the Penta Swirl. I don't know what people are talking about when they say the Penta Swirl doesn't handle big loads well. It most certainly does and very well.

Thanks, Melvin, what a great guy he is. Tell Gordon, I'll be in touch soon.

Once, my friend Tom invited me over to see his new Kenmore washer, and when I saw the subtle, soft ramps of the Penta-vane, I thought, oh this can't be good. Well, mass quantities of humble pie for me because it was powerful and impressive, indeed. What was I thinking.

A big thanks to Will for saving this Lady Kenmore and allowing me to relocate it to its retirement home in southeast Texas. I’ll make a post on it in the imperial forum.
