Some of you may remember a post in December 2024 about the dirtiness of the filter. I quit worrying so much about the filter and clean it every couple days.

Now there is another problem. The dishwasher dies during the wash cycle. No power, no lights nothing. I had to turn off the breaker at the fuse panel to get the dishwasher to reset. Restarted the DW and it successfully completed the cycle. It has done this 3 times in the past couple of weeks.

Could this be a main board problem? I might be looking at replacing the DW if it cost to much to replace the main board.

Opinions?

Newer GE dishwashers since about 2011

Hi David, welcome to the club. We have had seven similar GE dishwashers on our service schedule this week alone they have a lot of trouble with the main board. That’s the most likely thing you’re looking at. They also have a lot of trouble with the board in the control panel sometimes we have to replace both to get them to work when they die completely and won’t reboot like yours did.

The only good news is it’s fairly cheap and easy to replace that main board so if you like the dishwashers performance, I would not consider replacing it at this point.

If you do replace it, I would recommend one of the Maytag’s or KitchenAid dishwashers. They seem to be doing a lot better than GE that’s for sure.

How old is the dishwasher now? If it’s only one to two years old, you may consider going after GE possibly the store that sold it to you etc. GE also may have some sort of extended warranty because they’ve had so much trouble or they may give you the parts for free. It’s always worth complaining on something that breaks down in the first few years. If you bought it on a major credit card, it may be covered for an additional year of warranty through the credit card company or a place like Costco.

DW came with our house

It was manufactured November 2019. It will be 6 years old this year. We use the heck out of this DW. We are a family of 3 retired adults and it is used every day. I’ve been looking at Maytag and Whirlpool. Kitchenaid is just too expensive. I always check the local Home Depot. They usually have DW’s on clearance. I do not want another GE in my home.

Thanks you for responding!

Replaced the GE profile dishwasher

The GE Profile finally crapped out. It would run for 5 minutes then shut off. It did this about 3 times. Kept resetting at the fuse panel. Then it started to smell like something was getting hot. TIME TO GET RID OF IT!

We purchased a Sharp model #SDW6736MS at Lowe’s. It will be installed this coming Tuesday. I did a lot of research on it and the online reviews seemed promising. It was on sale for $499.00 + installation and taxes. With all the problems Whirlpool products have had with control boards I didn’t want to chance buying them.

I’ll do a review next week.

Later folks!

sharp dishwasher

You'll have to tell us about how you like it.
What does it sound like? Does it alternate wash arms or run them simultaneously?

sharp dishwasher video

I wish there was a video of a sharp dishwasher running so we could hear what one sounds like when running.

The new Sharp dishwasher that replaced GE profile

I got the Sharp installed this past Friday afternoon. We ran a moderately dirty load of dishes. Everything came out crystal clean. It is very low noise at 47 DBS. With the TV on (open kitchen/living room concept) I went back to make sure it was running. It’s a lot quieter than the GE Profile it replaced. The GE had a constant high pitch whine.

The wash arms wash simultaneously, not individually.

It has a thick blanket of insulation attached to the tub exterior. With the GE Profile the people who install it trashed the insulation upon installation. We use to leave chocolate candy on the counter above the GE. The heat from the GE melted them.

Over all it seems like a good dishwasher. We usually run it once a day on normal cycle with hi-temp washing and heated dry. So time will tell about the reliability of the product. The design is identical to a Samsung DW except the Sharp doesn’t pop the door open when finished.

I’ll update in a few weeks after it’s been use a lot more.

Peace and blessings

controls

What are the controls like? Are they touch or buttons you can feel?

Touch controls

I have attached a link for the information on the Lowe’s web site.

We did another big load today from a spaghetti lunch with some relatives. It did a good quiet job of cleaning. It runs a little over 2 hours.
