Hobart Superba IV KDS19 smells hot

Our Hobart Superba IV KDS19 may be getting hot during sani cycles.
At the beginning of the sani cycle it smells like it is getting hot inside the tub.
It does NOT happen if I use Fast wash, no dry cycle.
Is there any help to test it, repair it?
This is different than the burning smell that I fixed with members' help.
Thank you

At the beginning of the Sani cycle, it turns on both heaters in the sump and it gets quite hot. Be sure the machine is getting enough water , the heating element should be completely covered with water.

In general is the machine doing a great job washing really dirty dishes. This is another way to tell whether the machine is working properly and getting enough water.

The sani heat points get the water up to 150F before advancing the timer to the wash and rinse cycles. Using the Heavy Wash cycle will fill, briefly wash, drain, and refill to heat the water. In my situation, it cuts heating times in half.

Make sure the machine is filling correctly as John mentions. The water level should be slightly above the filter screen mesh.

Normal Sani Cycle filled fine. What washers do I buy?

I will have to continue to keep an eye on the water levels. I just ran the DW on Normal Cycle and the water levels were fine and the HOT smell wasn't there. your posts give me an idea on what to look for.
Our dishes are always clean even on a fast cycle.
This DW is a loved work horse.

The only other thing I question is that I posted about the washers rusting a while back and no one responded. Could you please tell me if it is a special washer? I don't trust my rusty washer to keep the DW from leaking much longer.

Thank you.
I will respond with a update within the week on the previous noted HOT smell

No more problem

Thank you two for the responses.
I have checked the water level during cycles. It is over the heat elements and near the mesh filter. And the mysterious hot smell has resolved.

Older KD-19

Hi all,
I just did some minor, but time-consuming repairs on my KD-19 diswasher.
Grand old workhorse it is, made in the 1970s.
I noticed a small leak on the floor, and found that the leak was coming from the connection between the pump housing and the rubber "L" shaped hose connector that feeds water to the upper spray arm.
So I tore the top pump assembly down and cleaned everything of any residue.
Also, I sealed that "press fit" hose connector (rubber) sparingly with Permatex Red gasket sealer, along with some around the O ring area that seals the top and bottom of the pump housing.
The Red sealer is good for up to 630 degrees so it should hold up.
Left it cure for a couple of days and ran a test for leaks.
"Dry as a Bone! - no more leaks - yay!
She's back in service again, and always was a great machine.

A few years back, she popped off the hose for the drain, I guess the hose relaxed and the clamp let loose.
That also got Permatex and has been good ever since.
