yesterday i noticed something rubber hanging from under the door of my bosch dishwasher that is less than 5 years old. i pulled it off fairly easily as it was barely still attached to the machine (see pic) . is this something i need to replace? it isn't immediately apparent what the purpose of it is.

That's basically a rubber skirt ment to bridge any gap between the front and the plith at the bottom.

It's usually ment to dampen some noise and to minimise any risk of getting anything cought in there like fingers.

As long as you don't have any small children playing with the machine and the noise isn't any worse than usual, that piece really isn't necessary for proper function.

If you give us a model number, I can show you the piece on the matching parts diagram.

That rubber mat is part #0261 on the drawings and is basically glued to the inside of the front door and just hangs behind the bottom plinth #0673.

All it does is keeping anything out from between the door and the plinth when the door is opended and to act as part of the noise isolation.
You could probably fix it back in place with some strong double sided tape.

Unfortunately, no video online shows the installation process of an EU machine with that part, but the installation manual illustrates how its fixed between the front of the appliance and the actual door (pic 4, 18+19) plus how it would just drape behind that plinth.

Loose rubber flap on a Bosch dishwasher

It’s probably not overly important but it might protect the wiring from getting cut where it goes through the door hinge area so it could lead to a fire hazard. I would check with Bosch to see if they think it’s important.

I would have to take it apart and examine it to see if it looks like it’s important, pretty typical Bosch engineering.
