That Westingouse dishwasher model was in two different hou9ses on the street I grew up on, houses were built spring 1961. Cycle sequence was purge main wash, and two rinses and dry, The red horizontal toggle switch was for turning on or off the hot water booster for the wash and the final (2nd) rinse,

What year was the last Westy Rollout?

When exactly was the first?

Or if it started out that way, the first drop-down door Westy?

Well Dave, Ephemera looks like from 1957 (possibly a bit earlier) to 1963 for rollouts.

Westinghouse rollout dishwashers

The one for sale is the early 60s model, Westinghouse was the last to continue making rollout dishwashers. They still have them available in 65,66 maybe even 67. They continued to build them after they introduced their much better performing drop door models however, the rollout ones were much more reliable.

Westinghouse dishwashers were introduced as front loading drop door machines at the 1939 World's Fair, but after the war, they were roll out wash well machines. They did not have detergent dispensers so from the start, they used a hot water booster to heat the wash water to 140F which could add 60 minutes to the wash period at a one degree rise per minute.

If you want to see the drop door machine, Google Westinghouse Pavilion 1939 World's Fair or go to the link.

Later on and through the end, they had a dual detergent dispenser with water filled through the dispenser. It was highly effective, filled through the first dispenser for the first wash, and the water filled through the second half of the dispenser for the second wash.

That is the one I had in Greenbelt where I glued heavy padding to the tub and the outer cabinet to deaden sound. It has the plain front with the small dial in the upper corner.

While the Westinghouse dishwasher was prominently featured at the 1939 World's Fair, the front loading model was available as early as 1936. I have a brochure from Whitehead Metal Products that my dad's aunt and uncle got when they were building their new house that year, and it shows the machine.
